MoviePass majority owner Helios and Matheson Analytics will pay Verizon only about million for Moviefone -- million in cash and a mix of HMNY stock and warrants worth about million, according to a Securities and Exchange filing Thursday.According to Business Insider, MoviePass has also welcomed back service to a handful of AMC theaters in big cities, including San Diego.The service removed 10 of AMC's busiest locations from its app in January to take a "hard position" against theater chain. Think of it as Uber-style surge pricing, but for movies.And Cinemark unveiled Movie Club, a monthly plan that lets people buy a movie ticket a month for a discounted price of .99, last year.That deal obviously isn't as good as the one a day plan offered by MoviePass. But Cinemark will also allow Movie Club members to roll over unused tickets every month, bring friends at the lower price and offers bargains on concession stand items.Lowe isn't too concerned about competition though. GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (AP) — Police in Texas say the actor Eddie Hassell has died in a shooting.The 30-year-old was known for his roles in the NBC show “Surface” and the 2010 film “The Kids Are All Right.”Police say the shooting happened early Sunday in the Dallas suburb of Grand Prairie.Officers responded to the shooting in the 3000 block of West Bardin Road at about 1:50 a.m. and located Hassell suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. First aid was rendered as the Waco resident was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.Police say they don't yet have a motive, but that a car had been taken from the scene of the shooting. Harvard University has announced plans to bring back up to 40 percent of their student body back to campus this fall.They also stated all course instruction at the undergraduate and graduate level will be delivered online, whether or not students are on campus. The fall semester begins on September 2 at Harvard.Those being allowed back to campus are all first-year students and those who must be on campus to progress academically. “This will enable first-year students to benefit from a supported transition to college-level academic work and to begin to build their Harvard relationships with faculty and peers,” the statement read.Harvard said this is only for the fall semester and if current restrictions are in place next year, their priority would be to bring back graduating seniors for their last semester on campus.Those coming back to campus will be tested for COVID-19 once they arrive, and then re-tested every three days while they are on campus.“Without a vaccine or effective clinical treatments for the virus, we know that no choice that reopens the campus is without risk. Hate crime incidents reported to the FBI increased by about 17 percent last year compared to 2016, according to statistics released Tuesday by the FBI.The statistics, which were released in the bureau's annual "Hate Crime Statistics" report, are a compilation of bias-motivated incidents submitted to the FBI by 16,149 law enforcement agencies.The report found that 7,175 hate crimes were reported by law enforcement agencies in 2017, up from 6,121 reported incidents in 2016. While the number has increased, the number of agencies reporting also increased by about 1,000.Of the 7,106 single-bias hate crimes reported, 59.6 percent of victims were targeted because of the offenders' race/ethnicity/ancestry bias; 20.6 percent were targeted because of sexual-orientation bias; 1.9 percent were targeted because of gender identity bias; and 0.6 percent were targeted because of gender bias. Sixty-nine multiple bias hate crime incidents were also reported.Notably, of the 1,679 religious bias crimes reported in 2017, 58.1 percent were anti-Jewish while 18.6 percent were anti-Muslim.In a statement released Tuesday, acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker said the report "is a call to action -- and we will heed that call.""The Department of Justice's top priority is to reduce violent crime in America, and hate crimes are violent crimes," the statement read."I am particularly troubled by the increase in anti-Semitic hate crimes -- which were already the most common religious hate crimes in the United States -- that is well documented in this report.
