SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- California Highway Patrol is investigating after a man was shot while driving on Interstate 8 Saturday night. According to CHP, the shooting happened on I-8 near Waring Road around 8:30 p.m. CHP says an unknown vehicle began firing rounds at the victim. According to CHP, the suspect fled the scene in an unknown vehicle and has yet to be located. The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Cal Coast Academy, a private school in Carmel Valley, has an "ambitious" plan to bring kids back to campus as soon as San Diego gets approval from state and county administrators."When we put our mind to something, we make it happen," says Jan Dunning, the school's founder and principal.Dunning plans to build six large tents on the school's property, similar to tents used at weddings or other large events. They'll have flooring, electricity and other amenities to make them feel like indoor classrooms."At my school we think on our feet," says Dunning. "We are flexible because we work with students that need flexibility. So that's a real strength of ours."Cal Coast Academy caters to students who need non-traditional learning, like elite athletes who travel extensively, international students, or students with learning disabilities. That's why the school feels they'll be able to make a non-traditional learning environment work this fall.Class sizes in the tents will be limited to six students per teacher, to allow for social distancing.But the project isn't cheap. Dunning says they've already spent nearly ,000 on the tents. Costs like that make it unlikely that public schools with large enrollments would be able to hold classes outdoors in a similar fashion. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities Tuesday identified the man killed during a Jet Ski crash over the weekend.According to the San Diego County medical examiner, 21-year-old Darius Kennedy died after a boat struck his Jet Ski.The medical examiner says he disappeared under water but emerged. People in the water helped Kennedy, who was taken to the hospital with injuries to his head and torso. He later died.The crash happened near the north end of Ski Beach around 6:30 Saturday.The driver of the boat that crashed into the Jet Ski was questioned and the boat taken in for evidence. The name of the boat driver hasn’t been released. 638

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Crews battled flames from two house fires that sprang up overnight in San Diego.The first fire was reported in City Heights at about 3 a.m. Crews responded to a home in the 4000 block of 42nd Street engulfed in flames.One person made it out of the home safely and surrounding neighbors were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. Neighbors say the homeowner was not inside when the fire broke out. It took about 30 minutes to knock the fire down and no injuries were reported.San Diego Fire Department said Metro Arson Strike Team determined the fire was intentionally set. The blaze caused an estimated 0,000 in total damages.No arrests have been made.Fire crews also doused a fire in Encanto at an abandoned home near 66th St. and Madera St. The home's doors and windows were boarded up and transients frequented the property, according to fire crews.No injuries were reported in that fire as well. 955
