It’s why Gabbard worked to bring hope to his neighbors, like Muncy.Gabbard brought fiber optic internet to the small city.“When you say fiber, people say, ‘cereal? What are you talking about?’” Gabbard recalled of what people thought when the idea first hit the area.Fiber optic internet is some of the fastest internet you can find.“Fine glass the size of a human hair that you send a light through,” he explained.In 2014, Gabbard's rural part of the Bluegrass State went from barely having any internet connection to now having some of the fastest internet in the country.“Think of the speed of light and how fast that is, that’s how I like to compare it,” Gabbard said. “Our Internet here is as good as New York City.”More than half of Americans say internet access has been essential during the novel coronavirus pandemic. However, according to 2016 figures, 39 percent of rural Americans lack access to broadband internet.The cost of bringing broadband to the Jackson County area wasn’t cheap. In a joint press release on Thursday, a group of Trump administration officials called the 2020 election "the most secure in American history," directly contradicting the President.In their statement, the members of the Election Infrastructure Government Coordinating Council (GCC) Executive Committee added that "there is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised."“While we know there are many unfounded claims and opportunities for misinformation about the process of our elections, we can assure you we have the utmost confidence in the security and integrity of our elections, and you should too," the statement read, in part. "When you have questions, turn to elections officials as trusted voices as they administer elections.”The statement added that all states that use computerized voting systems also have paper records of each vote, meaning states can further verify results if needed.Ten members of the GCC signed the statement.The press release was issued by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency, an agency within the Department of Homeland Security. (KGTV) - Residents in one Imperial Beach neighborhood are hoping surveillance video will help put an end to an "endless" cycle of graffiti.In an alley off 14th Street, Gary Copeland looks at his neighbor's brand new fence and can only shake his head."It's disgusting we have to look at all this graffiti," said Copeland.On Monday around 4:30 a.m., a neighbor's motion-activated camera captured a man in a cap shaking a can of spray paint. In the next video recorded, one can hear the sound of spray paint before the man emerges from the dark. Hours later and blocks away, a camera in another alley captured a man without a cap spray-painting a similar tag on the wall of another home."It's a nuisance is what it is," said Copeland.Copeland's family has lived at his home for some four decades."You can see they've tagged my wall a few times. We've repainted, but they came back and re-tagged it," said Copeland.Copeland says his wall has been hit three times in the past six months."It's never-ending deal ... there's always tagging. Up and down the alley all these fences are tagged ...
