VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Vista Unified School District is calling on the community to donate their new and used instruments. As they add new music programs, the goal is to get an instrument in the hand of every student. "I really feel music has the ability to save lives and it does," said Eric Weirather, Band Director at Rancho Buena Vista High School.Weirather has been organizing instruments coming in, and a recent donation took his breath away.RELATED: See how music is molded — for free — at El Cajon's Taylor Guitar factory“It was really unreal, like a kid in a candy store!" Weirather said.North Coast Church heard about the instrument drive and asked their worshipers to help, and they delivered.“They filled an entire room. I think they might be up to 1,000 instruments they've donated. Think about all the impact that will have on these kids for years to come.”They've received guitars, drums, flutes, ukuleles, tambourines, saxophones, keyboards and much more. WASHINGTON — Vice President Mike Pence and other top officials from President Donald Trump’s campaign are slated to attend a Montana fundraiser this month hosted by a couple who are adherents of the QAnon conspiracy theory, according to an event invitation obtained by The Associated Press and a review of social media postings.Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and finance chair Todd Ricketts are also slated to attend the event. Also invited is Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host and a current GOP fundraiser that is dating the president's son, Donald Trump Jr.The QAnon conspiracy theory centers on the baseless belief that Trump is waging a secret campaign against enemies in the “deep state” and a child sex trafficking ring run by satanic pedophiles and cannibals. Its supporters have been linked to acts of violence, including a June 2018 incident where a supporter blocked traffic on the Hoover Dam bridge.The social media accounts of event hosts Caryn and Michael Borland show they have repeatedly shared QAnon memes, or retweeted posts from QAnon accounts.While many Republican politicians have denounced the conspiracy theory, its followers are becoming more and more entrenched in the party. WARNER SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) - Just ahead of Thanksgiving, a driver had a rare encounter with two wild turkeys on a highway in northeast San Diego County this week. Patrice Malloy was driving south on SR-79 to the community of Warner Springs Wednesday morning when she spotted the turkeys ahead of her on the road. “They were right in front of me; they wouldn’t move,” said Malloy. She slowed her Mini Cooper and honked, but that only attracted the birds’ attention. She grabbed her camera to get proof of the unusual confrontation. “There’s always wildlife,” Malloy said, noting this was her first experience with wild turkeys. “I’ve dodged quail…and there are coyotes.” Eventually, another car approached from behind, which drew the ire of the turkeys. Malloy used the opportunity to drive away, flashing her lights at other drivers to warn them about the wildlife hazard. Malloy says it’s mating season for turkeys, which explains the two animals on the move. 1125

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man who detained two juveniles before taking their skateboards while posing as a sheriff’s deputy was sentenced Monday.  Abraham Joseph Nava, 24, was sentenced to three years of formal probation after pleading guilty in July to felony false imprisonment.In a separate case, Nava also admitted to calling in a false report of a bomb threat. Nava was given credit for 149 days in custody.RELATED: Guilty plea from man who posed as deputy, detained juveniles  He will have to comply with counseling conditions as required by the probation department, including a forensic examination to help determine what course of treatment to take, said Deputy District Attorney Peter Estes.Nava was arrested on June 14, several days after the sheriff’s department was contacted about a suspect claiming to be an undercover deputy.During interviews with several employees in the Main Street area of Vista, investigators learned that the suspect passed out fake business cards and was interacting with juveniles.Investigators also learned that the two juveniles were detained and had their skateboards taken. After identifying Nava as the suspect, investigators obtained a warrant to search his home where they discovered several pieces of San Diego County Sheriff’s Department uniform items, including badges.A box of fraudulent business cards was also found. Nava was charged on June 26 for calling in a false report. 1451

Walmart will roll out a new website next month.The nation's largest retailer announced Tuesday that its redesigned site will offer more personalization, include more vibrant colors and a cleaner design, and feature "relatable photography that showcases real-life moments."The homepage will include a new section that showcases top-selling items in a customer's location. It will also offer specialty shopping experiences, such as the Lord & Taylor flagship online store which is launching this spring. That partnership was first announced last fall.Walmart has become one of the major platforms for online sales. It's taken aim at Amazon by offering free shipping without a membership fee for most purchases of or more. Online has become the fast growing part of Walmart's business, with the company forecasting 40% growth in those sales this year. And it has announced plans to bring online grocery delivery to 100 markets by the end of this year.But it has not been without bumps. In the fourth quarter Walmart had much slower growth in online sales because the company ran out of some items at its fulfillment centers during the holiday shopping period, said CEO Doug McMillon."We're learning how to deal with higher volumes and learning how to deal with a higher peak than what we had previously," McMillon said on a call with analysts.  1362
