BEIJING, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Monday pledged to step up exchanges and cooperation between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and other Asian political parties.Xi made the pledge in his meeting with delegates attending the Poverty Alleviation Conference of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) held from July 16 - 18 in Kunming, capital city of southwest China's Yunnan Province.Xi also noted the CPC successfully hosted the third ICAPP meeting six years ago.Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping meets with the delegates of the Poverty Alleviation Conference of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties in Beijing, capital of China, July, 19, 2010."The Kunming Proposal on Poverty Alleviation adopted at the just-concluded conference will not only boost cooperation between Asian political parties on development issues but also facilitate regional stability, prosperity and harmony," Xi said.The CPC and Asian political parties share the same responsibilities to promote development in their countries and improve people's livelihoods, the vice president said."We would like to further strengthen exchange and cooperation with Asian political parties and contribute to regional development and friendly relations between people."Sri Lankan Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, a senior leader in that country's Freedom Party, extended thanks for China's efforts to ensure the success of the conference on behalf of all participants.Co-chairman of ICAPP Standing Committee Jose De Venecia said China has made great contributions to the world's poverty alleviation cause, and so holding a conference on poverty alleviation in China was appropriate.He said the Kunming Proposal adopted in the conference will be submitted to the UN Millennium Development Goals summit scheduled for September.Later on Monday, Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with a delegation from the Thai Democrat Party led by Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban.More than 120 representatives from 57 political parties in 30 countries attended the conference. NEW YORK, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill to recognise Nanjing City of China as a "Model for International Cooperation" in order to award the city's active involvement in cooperation with the United States in education, innovation and entrepreneurship, and this was the first Chinese city to win such an award, Li Jiansheng, executive chairman of the U.S.-China Partnership Committee, told Xinhua on Thursday.The House passed the bill, tabled by Representative John Tierney of Massachusetts, on Tuesday night, Li said, adding that this will pave the way for further cooperation between China and the United States in education, innovation and entrepreneurship, which are very conducive to build a stronger China in the future."I rise today to speak about a model for international cooperation that is said to hold promise and future opportunities for the United States," Tierney said when he was taking the floor at the House. ISLAMABAD, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- All the Chinese trapped in the flood-hit Pakistan's northwest province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been evacuated to safe places with the assistance of the Pakistani side, said Liu Jian, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan on Monday.According to Liu, a total of 265 Chinese workers and engineers working at a hydro power station project in the Patan area of Kohistan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were trapped on a mountain after a huge landslide triggered by floods and torrential rains washed across their work site on July 29.Three Chinese engineers and workers went missing after they were reportedly washed away by the flood water and landslide while working inside a tunnel.The trapped Chinese who retreated up to a nearby mountain surrounded by the flood water suffered a great deal as they were in serious lack of food and water and had to fight the coldness of living in the open atop a mountain lashed by torrential rains.Upon hearing the news of the Chinese trapped in the flood-hit area of northwest Pakistan, the Chinese embassy immediately kicked off an emergency rescue operation under the assistance of the Pakistani government, army and police.Three military helicopters were dispatched to the site where the Chinese were trapped for the rescue work. Large numbers of troops and police forces were mobilized as well. The Chinese ambassador together with his embassy colleagues also rushed to the site from Islamabad on July 31 by fighting the difficulties on the disrupted roads leading to Patan.After nearly five days of cocerted efforts by the Chinese and Pakistani sides, all the Chinese trapped on the mountain in the Patan area had been evacuated to safe places as of late Monday afternoon, said Liu Jian, adding that the search operation for the three missing Chinese is still underway.However, the chance for the survial of the three missing Chinese is very slim, said Pakitani police officers who are involved in the search operation.
