BOAO, Hainan, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with former U.S. President George W. Bush and former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda here Saturday in south China's Hainan Province. Wen spoke highly of Bush's contribution to the development of Sino-U.S. constructive and cooperative ties. He hoped Bush would continue to play a positive role in promoting bilateral relations.     Wen said that since President Obama took office, Sino-U.S. tieshave got to a good start. The two nations have dedicated to building a positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship inthe 21st century. China's Premier Wen Jiabao (R) meets with former U.S. President George W. Bush arrived here to attend the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2009 held from April 17 to 19.     The spreading global financial crisis and the growing global challenges demand the two nations increase mutual trust, enhance coordination, jointly overcome the current difficulties and benefit the two countries and people of the world, said Wen.     "We hope the U.S. economy will take a favourable turn as soon as possible, which is conducive to the world economy," he added.     Bush said it is uplifting to see the Sino-U.S. ties improving. Both China and the United States are major nations in the world and should keep close communication and cooperation.    He said he would continue to contribute to the development of Sino-U.S. ties.     The policies and measures that the Chinese government has takento cope with the financial crisis have already yielded results andare very impressive, said Bush.     The continuous growth of economies of both countries are crucial to the recovery of the world economy, he said, stressing the two countries should strengthen cooperation in resisting the impact of the financial crisis.     During the meeting with Fukuda, Wen appreciated the former Japanese Prime Minister's contribution to improving and developingChina-Japan friendly relations.     Wen said China-Japan ties maintain sound in general. The two countries should proceed from the long-term perspective of bilateral ties, increase political mutual trust, deepen mutual understanding between the two peoples and safeguard the general interests of Sino-Japanese strategic reciprocal relations.     He said the global financial crisis is not just a challenge forAsia, but also an important opportunity for speeding up regional cooperation.     He also called on the two countries to proceed from the overallinterests of Asia and the long-term development of bilateral ties to enhance coordination and all-around cooperation, so as to jointly push forward regional economic and financial cooperation and make greater contribution to the revitalization of Asia and the construction of East Asia community.     To continuously enhance the friendship between the two peoples is of great importance to the long-term development of bilateral ties, said Fukuda, adding that he would spare no effort to promotefriendly cooperation between the two nations in the future.     Fukuda also said China plays a key role in withstanding the global financial crisis.     Bush and Fukuda were here to attend the 2009 annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) from April 17 to 19.

BEIJING, March 25 (Xinhua) -- China voiced its strong dissatisfaction Wednesday against a U.S. Congress resolution on the Taiwan Relations Act saying it is an interference in its internal affairs.     "China is strongly dissatisfied and has lodged a solemn representation over the resolution adopted to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act," Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Qin Gang said in a statement.     The U.S. House of Representatives voted for the resolution Tuesday.     The Taiwan Relations Act, passed by the U.S. Congress in 1979, required the United States to provide Taiwan with arms of a defensive character. China has never recognized the legitimacy of the act.     Qin said the Chinese government and people, from the very start, resolutely opposed the Act adopted by the United States unilaterally.     "We urge the United States to follow the basic norms guiding international relations and the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, and stop the wrongful act of using the Taiwan issue to interfere in China's internal affairs," Qin said.

  

PORT LOUIS, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived Monday in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, for a state visit aimed at enhancing bilateral friendship and cooperation.     He was greeted at the airport by Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam. Chinese President Hu Jintao (L Front), accompanied by Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam (R Front), inpsects the honor guard upon his arrival in Port Louis for a state visit Feb. 16, 2009His visit will enhance mutual understanding and trust, deepen the traditional friendship and promote mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Mauritius, said the Chinese president.     It will also help take China-Mauritius relations to a new high, Hu added. During the visit, the last leg of his five-nation "journey of friendship and cooperation," Hu is expected to meet with Mauritian President Anerood Jugnauth and hold talks with Ramgoolam.     The two countries will sign a number of cooperation documents during Hu's two-day visit.     Hu flew into Port Louis from Dar es Salaam, after paying a state visit to Tanzania. He earlier visited Saudi Arabia, Mali and Senegal.

  

BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has called for offices at all levels responsible for the research of the history of Communist Party of China (CPC) to play a more important role in improving the Party's ruling abilities.     Xi, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remark at a meeting attended by officials in charge of the Party history research offices at the provincial level on Wednesday.     Xi urged the Party committees to provide financial and human resource support for those offices and encouraged Party history researchers to play stronger role in education among the Party members.     The Vice President said Party history research organs should take the opportunity in the year of 2009 when the People's Republic of China celebrates the 60th anniversary of founding.     Xi stressed that the offices should promote the Party's ruling abilities and solidify the CPC's status as the governing party.
