Michigan State Police say they have a trooper who has been hit by cars 11 separate times while on the job.That trooper, who works out of the Oak Park station, has been with the department for 25 years and is still patrolling today knowing every traffic stop is putting his life on the line."He's been hit in his patrol car and also struck standing on the side of the road,” said MSP Lt. Mike Shaw.Shaw admits that it might be a record, but said he doesn't know any officer who hasn't been hit by a another car while on the job.“I’ve been hit, the troopers standing behind me have all been hit. It’s not ‘if’ it’s a ‘when’.”He said traffic crashes are the number one cause of death for law enforcement patrol officers.Today first responders from across south east Michigan met to highlight the state's Move Over Law."It's a very simple law to go by," he said. "If you can move over, move over. MICHIGAN — Six Detroit-area doctors were charged with fraudulent health care billing and unlawful prescribing of opioids, according to a federal indictment.The defendants, identified as Rajendra Bothra, Eric Backos, Gainu Edu, David Lewis, Christopher Russo and Ronald Kufner, each played different roles at different times, the indictment said. Over the course of the conspiracy, the defendants allegedly submitted claims for more than 2.5 million to Medicare, 2.6 million to Medicaid and .2 million to Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan for services and equipment that was medically unnecessary, not eligible for reimbursement and/or not provided as represented.According to the indictment, the defendants issued more than 13,217,987 dosage units of Schedule II opioids, including Oxycontin, Percocet and Vicodin.The scheme, beginning in January 2013, was operated at three clinics: The Pain Center located in Eastpointe and Warren and the Interventional Pain Center in Warren. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says tropical storms may continue to develop past that day.Even without more storms, this season has been historic. We saw a record-breaking 30 named storms and 12 landfalling storms in the continental U.S., according to the NOAA. Before this year, the 2005 season held the record for the most named storms, with 28.Of this season’s 30 named storms, 13 of them became hurricanes, meaning winds were 74 mph or greater. MANAGUA, Nicaragua — Hurricane Iota is moving across northern Nicaragua with hurricane strength winds of around 85 mph after making landfall as a dangerous Category 4 storm. Iota came ashore along almost exactly the same stretch of Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast that was devastated by an equally powerful Hurricane Eta just 13 days earlier. Iota had intensified into an extremely dangerous Category 5 storm during the day Monday, but the U.S. National Hurricane Center says it weakened slightly as it neared the coast late Monday and made landfall with maximum sustained winds of 155 mph (250 kph). Eta’s torrential rains saturated the soil in the region, meaning Iota's rains have nowhere to go and could cause deadly landslides.In their 7 a.m. update, the National Hurricane Center said Iota is expected to create "flash flooding, landslides, life-threatening storm surge and powerful winds across portions of Central America Tuesday."The NHC says Iota is moving west, further inland, and will move across Honduras Tuesday night into Wednesday.
