CNN White House reporter Jim Acosta said on Wednesday that he was denied access to the White House on Wednesday evening, following a contentious news conference when he sparred with President Donald Trump. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed the White House has removed Acosta's hard pass, which allows journalists access to the White House grounds. Sanders said that Acosta's credential has been revoked until further notice. Earlier on Wednesday, Acosta was scolded by Trump for continuing a tough line of questioning. "CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them," Trump said. "You're a very rude person. The way you treat Sarah Huckabee Sanders is horrible. You shouldn't treat people that way."Acosta questioned the President about his rhetoric surrounding a migrant caravan that is traveling on foot to the United States. While trying to ask a follow-up question, Trump repeatedly told Acosta he was moving on.At that point, a White House staffer attempted to take the microphone out of Acosta's hands. Acosta made several attempts to pose the follow-up question to Trump before finally allowing the White House staffer to take the microphone.Sanders claimed that Acosta placed his hands on the staffer while trying to hold onto the microphone. "President Trump believes in a free press and expects and welcomes tough questions of him and his Administration," Sanders said in a statement. "We will, however, never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern."CNN responded by saying it fully supports Acosta. "She provided fraudulent accusations and cited an incident that never happened," CNN said in a statement. "This unprecedented decision is a threat to our democracy and the country deserves better. Jim Acosta has our full support."Here is the exchange in its entirety:  1943

Comedians are apologizing for using blackface in skits, and networks are removing shows that feature blackface amid renewed attention on the racist portrayals. On Tuesday, Tina Fey asked that four episodes of '30 Rock' get pulled from circulation. The '30 Rock' episodes featured Jane Krakowski's character, Jenna, in two cases wearing blackface and Jon Hamm in blackface during a season six episode, CBS News reported. Jimmy Fallon recently apologized for his impersonation of Chris Rock by wearing blackface in a 'Saturday Night Live' skit from 20 years ago.Jimmy Kimmel apologized for using blackface for his impersonation of NBA star Karl Malone in the 1990s.According to Vulture, Netflix removed shows 'Little Britain', 'The Mighty Boosh,' and 'The League of Gentlemen' from their streaming service because of "white actors portraying characters of color."An episode during the sixth season of 'It's Always Sunny in Philadephia' was also pulled from Netflix. The decision for the apologies and the removal of these shows and episodes comes amid the Black Lives Matter protests over the death of George Floyd. 1118

CLEVELAND — Sex toys, envelopes and craft supplies are among the products Ohio workers say their companies continue to make or distribute under the protection of being so-called "essential employers" as most businesses across the state have shut down during the Coronavirus outbreak.Workers are raising concerns about their health and safety and remain skeptical whether employers are finding loopholes during Ohio's stay at home order issued by Gov. DeWine requiring non-essential businesses to close as of Monday night."I'm afraid of being fired if I don't come to work," said one employee at AmeriMark, a Cleveland-based direct marketer of women's apparel, shoes, cosmetics and health related merchandise --including more than 30 sex toys included in its "health living essentials."The company also distributes wrist blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, glucose monitors and wheelchairs. The Ohio Department of Health's "Stay at Home Order" specifically includes "distributors of medical equipment."In a recorded message to its employees, workers are being told, "We are happy to report AmeriMark will remain in operation during this period...in this unparalleled time, we are excited to serve AmeriMark customers."The company has not yet responded to our inquiry."My concern is that there are a lot of elderly women working here," said another worker concerned about passing the virus from person to person. The State's StanceDuring Tuesday's news conference, Lt. Governor Jon Husted acknowledged confusion over the definition of an "essential business" and referred employers to Ohio's coronavirus website."It's written in plain language, we ask you to follow the language and use your best judgment," said Husted. "Please don't call law enforcement and ask them to interpret it for you."Lt. Governor Jon Husted"You don’t need a letter, certification or clearance. You do need to have a rationale about how the order applies to you," said Husted. "If you have a question – read it – come to your justification and have it prepared in case you’re asked."He said if businesses are not following the order they will eventually be "called on it by an employee or a competitor.""Please don't let it come to that," he said.More concerned workersAnother Cleveland company, Cenveo, is raising questions among workers who produce envelopes--including some used by the U.S. Postal Service."Why are we essential?" asks one employee. "We make one type of envelope for the postal service--I'm afraid of losing my job if I don't show up."A news release issued by by the company on March 17, said "precautionary measures have been put in place at both our office and manufacturing facilities as we continue to operate in our regular course of business."Cenveo, based in Stamford, Connecticut, identifies itself as a "world leader in the management of print and related offerings" and has not yet responded to our inquiry.Essential Crafting?Even craft stores, like Michaels and Joann Fabric and Craft Stores continue to remain open despite health concerns among employees."Crafting is non-essential," said one Michaels employee. "Are they above the rules?"A company release addressing the COVID-19 outbreak said "we are taking precautionary measures to ensure our corporate offices, stores, distribution centers and other facilities minimize the risk."In a message to Joann customers, the company said "now more than ever it is important to safely provide what these Americans need to support their livelihood, mental wellness and community giving."Among those items, the company is encouraging customers to help make "protective non-surgical masks and gowns during this critical time."The company adds that it is "taking action to ensure we are protecting our facilities, customers and teams across the nation."Ask Sherwin WilliamsA worker at a Sherwin Williams paint plant in Massillon asks, "Since when is bodyfiller and paint essential? It shows they don't care about their employees at all."The company responded saying "the health and safety of our customers and employees during this pubic health emergency is of utmost concern" adding it has closed the sales floors at its paint stores and is allowing customers to shop online instead.Regarding its manufacturing facilities, the company says: "We serve a critical role supplying product customers who support health care facilities, manufacturing plants and other infrastructure."They are among just a handful of Ohio workers concerned over their health and safety at work--many worried they will be fired if they fail to show up.From a company manufacturing aluminum parts to workers at a food distribution center--all remain concerned over how companies are remaining open and possibly jeopardizing their health."Keeping open is just a way for them to get money," concludes one worker.Copyright 2020 Scripps Media, Inc. CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — A Florida family says they were recently targeted by a terrifying kidnapping scam.Katie and Steve Watson live in Coral Springs, Florida and want to warn families about the crime.Katie tells WPTV that she received a call on Monday from a number she didn’t recognize. On the line she heard a whimpering child, then a mysterious man say he had kidnapped Katie’s daughter, Chloe."All of a sudden a man's voice came on the line, and he said, 'Katie I have your daughter. She's in the back of my van,' " Watson told WPTV on Tuesday.Katie said she quickly hung up, feeling in her gut that it was scam. "That's really part of what gave me the chills was somebody calling me by my name," said Watson. "That was unsettling."Katie says she figured it was a scam, but then got a bad feeling when she checked her daughter’s location through her phone's GPS.It initially said her daughter was at Westglades Middle School in Parkland, which Chloe attends. But then the GPS suddenly jumped to another location in Parkland.Upon further investigation, the Watsons found that her daughter was indeed at school, and more importantly, safe."I got chills all over my body and I was like, OK, I know that was a scam but that's like every parent's worst nightmare is to hear your kid has been kidnapped," said Watson. The FBI calls this a virtual kidnapping scam and says it’s evolved over the years and become more sophisticated. In the calls, a crook says he’s kidnapped your loved one and demands money in exchange for their safe return. In the Watsons' case, however, the scam was taken to a frightening new level with the use of a whimpering child on the line. The FBI offers these tips so you don’t become a victim: 1748

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Like any other case, President Donald Trump’s positive COVID-19 test will set into motion a series of events designed to determine who the president might have been in close contact with. That investigation—called contact tracing—is considered by many experts to be one of the best ways of handling new outbreaks and potential COVID-19 clusters.President Trump announced early Friday morning that he and the first lady had tested positive for the virus. The president had been in Cleveland earlier in the week for the first presidential debate. The incubation period for COVID-19 is anywhere between two to 14 days, although in many cases the period is between three to five days. It remains unclear where and how President Trump was infected with the virus.Members of the small crowd that attended the debate in person were required to be tested for the virus. Anyone with a positive test was not allowed inside. In typical cases, once a person has tested positive for the virus, contact tracers—which act almost like disease detectives—will ask the patient a series of questions about their activities prior to the positive test. Eventually, the contact tracers will work to find out who the patient might have been in close contact with.Generally, close contact is defined as another person who may have been within six feet of the patient for at least 10 minutes. The people identified as close contacts will be alerted by the contact tracers of their possible exposure and risk of infection. All parties are then asked to self-quarantine for at least 14 days.Although the close contacts are not apprised of the identity of the person who tested positive for the virus, sometimes they are not forthcoming with information to contact tracers.“When we call the contacts, you get a variety of responses. Sometimes people hang up, sometimes they cuss us out,” said Romona Brazile of the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. The contact tracers will also ask the close contacts about any possible pre-existing conditions and advise them on how to keep the virus from spreading in their homes. The goal of contact tracing is to determine who might have been exposed in order to keep the virus from spreading uncontrollably.Whether it be SARS, HIV, or Ebola, contact tracing has been used by epidemiologists and virologists for decades. It is considered by many to be one of the best ways to prevent further spread of diseaseThe Cuyahoga County Board of Health has had anywhere from 60 to 75 contact tracers and can activate more as they are needed, officials said. Additionally, the state has dozens of contact tracers that can help assist those working on the local level. This story was first reported by Jordan Vandenberge at WEWS in Cleveland, Ohio. 2770
