COVID is wreaking havoc in the Southeastern Conference.On Wednesday, the conference announced that they postponed the No. 12 Georgia Bulldogs vs. Missouri Tigers football game due to a COVID outbreak within the Tigers football program.With Missouri already playing Dec. 12, the conference pushed back the Georgia and Missouri's game to Dec. 19, the conference said in a press release.This is the fourth game the conference has had to postpone this week."While it is unfortunate to have multiple postponements in the same week, we began the season with the understanding interruptions to the schedule were possible and we have remained focused throughout the season on the health of everyone around our programs," said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said in the news release. CLEVELAND — As we’ve seen throughout this pandemic, people on both sides of the mask debate are passionate about where they stand.“It’s very sad that this has become a political issue,” said Sharona Hoffman, a professor of Law and Bioethics at Case Western Reserve University.On Wednesday night, an order from Governor Mike DeWine will take effect, requiring masks in public settings in parts of Ohio, including Ohio's three largest cities of Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati. Ohio, unlike a number of other states, does not have a statewide mandate on wearing masks. The move sparked increased chatter around the claim that these mandates infringe on the rights of Americans.“This shouldn’t be about people’s liberties,” said Hoffman.Government mandates are nothing new.“We have to pay taxes, we have to abide by the speed limit,” said Hoffman.During this pandemic, regulations requiring masks are no different and totally appropriate, according to Hoffman.“This type of regulation is legal, constitutional and very, very sensible,” said Hoffman.One of the main responsibilities of elected officials is to ensure the health and safety of those they serve.“It wouldn’t make sense to even have a government if their hands were tied and they couldn’t take these measures,” said Hoffman.Hoffman said people should be willing to mask-up on their own and not be told to do so.“This should be something that people are very willing to do not only to protect themselves but also to protect other people,” said Hoffman. Comedian Jimmy Fallon announced on Sunday that tapings for "The Tonight Show" for the coming week have been canceled due to his mother's death. Fallon had previously canceled Friday's taping at the last minute due to a family matter. On Saturday, Fallon's mother Gloria Fallon died at the age of 68. “Jimmy Fallon’s mother, Gloria, died peacefully on Saturday," a spokesperson for Fallon told NBC News in a statement. CLEVELAND — Three suspects were arrested after an officer was shot and killed in Cleveland's Stockyard neighborhood Thursday evening.The unidentified suspects was arrested Friday morning.The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. in the 3200 block of West 65th Street near Storer Avenue, police said.The officer, later identified as Det. James Skernivitz, was rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center where he died from his injuries, according to the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association.Police said another person was confirmed dead on the scene but was not a suspect.Skernivitz's identity was held pending the notification of his family, as he is married with children, police said.Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association said Skernivitz has been on the force for "a while," was "well-liked" and was a "good man.""This one hurts," Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association president Jeff Follmer said.Skernivitz was a 25-year veteran of the Cleveland Division of Police, authorities said."We definitely need the prayers of the people in the city. Conditions on a breeder's property during an animal rescue operation near Nashville were so toxic that the leader of the rescue team nearly died from ammonia poisoning.Scotlund Haisley, the founder of Animal Rescue Corps, led a team along with sheriff's deputies to the home of a breeder. It was called Operation Noah's Ark.They rescued 150 animals from horrible conditions - conditions that were so bad, Haisley was poisoned by fumes and needed a blood transfusion to survive.Haisley wasn't feeling well, but he was still up and around two days later giving a tour of the shelter."This is what it takes to care for 150 animals. All of these volunteers," said Haisley pointing to his team.Moments later, he became violently sick.ARC has made hundreds of rescues over the years, almost all of them are in deplorable conditions.Yet, this one was in many ways the worst and most dangerous. Inside the structures, Haisley found an unbelievable amount of feces and urine, which produced the highest ammonia levels he'd ever encountered. He still went in."The animals were in there. They were suffering greatly. We had to get them out," said Haisley.Free from that toxic environment, the animals immediately began getting better, but Haisley got worse."Extreme nausea, couldn't hold food or beverages down and very exhausted," Haisley said describing his symptoms.Haisley talked to us later by phone after his release from the hospital for what turned out to be acute ammonia poisoning which required a massive blood transfusion. Doctors told him he nearly died."I've experienced ammonia before. This is a whole new experience for me," said Haisley.However, it won't change his mission. The experience made Haisley even more determined to rescue animals.He now knows, more than ever, that no living creature should ever live in such conditions.Experts say the toxic fumes found at some deplorable sites where animals are rescued can be comparable with those found at a meth lab.Haisley says crews often will wear oxygen masks, but now for extreme cases, they are looking to buy some protective full-body suits. 2187
