BEIJING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese military official Saturday urged for improved efforts to deal with the work concerning political and legal affairs in the military.Xu Caihou, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, made the remarks while addressing participants of a military meeting here.Also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Xu urged military officials at various levels to further improve political awareness and their sense of urgency in handling the work concerning political and legal affairs.Praising the remarkable achievements the military has made in work during the past five years, Xu said the armed forces should step up their efforts in this regard to ensure the military's purity and social stability in the coming five years.He noted that the period of 2011-2015 is crucial for China's national defense and military capacity development.Efforts to improve political work should be made towards ensuring the CPC's absolute leadership over the army, as well as maintaining social stability and creating a favorable environment for China's reforms and development, Xu said.Also, he noted, more work should be done to improve the military members' ideological standards and their style of working, adding that unhealthy ways and customs must be corrected.

CANCUN, Mexico, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- China will not compromise on issues of principle at the ongoing UN climate change conference in Cancun, Mexico, the country's chief negotiator said on Saturday.Su Wei, the chief Chinese negotiator and head of the climate change department of China's National Development and Reform Commission, made the remarks in response to some parties' call for "compromise to make achievements.""All the parties want to reach substantial achievements at the Cancun conference, which can lay a solid foundation for the completion of 'Bali Roadmap' negotiations," Su told Xinhua in an exclusive interview."I think we can cooperate with other parties and even make compromises on some non-principle issues, but we will not compromise on the issues of principle, such as the continuation of the Kyoto Protocol, which is the basis for a package of agreements to be made in Cancun," Su said.The negotiator stressed that the developing countries have reached consensus on the principle issues. "We are keeping solidarity and trying to play a constructive role," he added.Su said some country's opposition to the Kyoto Protocol is no good news to the developing countries, and has exerted negative influence on the conference.Negotiators at the Cancun conference are trying to establish a replacement for the Kyoto Protocol, which obliges rich nations except the United States to cut greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 5.2 percent below 1990 levels by 2008-2012."At the end of the first week of the Cancun conference, there are some progresses in adaptation, finance, technology and mitigation for the developing countries, but it is hard to say if the progresses are final ones," Su observed.As for the rumors about a secret Mexican text, Su said that the president of COP16 has told the delegations from every country including China that Mexico will not put forward a secret text."As I know, Mexico, the host country of COP16, is always pursuing the principles of 'open, transparent and widening participation' for the climate negotiations this year. BEIJING, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese credit rating firm Dagong Global Credit Rating assessed the sovereign credit rating of Ireland at BBB in its third sovereign or regional credit rating report released Monday.Dagong's credit rating of Ireland is lower than that given by Moody's, Standard and Poor's and Fitch."Dagong made its assessment based on factors such as Ireland's increasing debt level, the administrative capability of its government, economic and financial strength," Dagong Global said.Dagong Global's announcement follows the proposed 85-billion-euro bailout of debt-hit Ireland by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.Dagong's report also rated four other nations - Finland, Uruguay, Kenya and Sudan.In terms of domestic currency-denominated debt, Finland received the firm's top AAA rating, but with a negative outlook.Uruguay was rated BB-plus while Kenya received a B rating.Sudan was rated C, the nation's first sovereign credit rating.Dagong Global uses a three-level assessment system, with each level containing three sub-levels.
