Rep. Rashida Tlaib shared a photo of an anonymous "hateful" note posted outside her congressional office that called for Rep. Ilhan Omar to stop "disgusting Jew hatred."The note, written on a blue sticky note and posted on the placard outside Tlaib's office in the Longworth House Office Building, read: "Rep Omar, Stop your disgusting Jew hatred. Your sign says 'Justice for all.' That means Jews too. Your Jihad against the Jews will fail."The note also included the words "Am Yisrael Chai," which translates to "the nation of Israel lives."Tlaib, who is the first Palestinian-American elected to Congress and, along with Omar, serves as one of two Muslim women in Congress, tweeted a photo of the note Tuesday night. The two congresswomen are close friends."This is the hateful rhetoric & bullying on my door today. Stop the fear mongering & blantant lies. Come here w/ the value that all beings deserve human rights, including Palestinians. (Omar) & I fight for equality & justice for all. There's nothing antisemitic about that!" Tlaib wrote in the tweet. The US Capitol Police did not respond to CNN's request for comment Wednesday. The note comes several weeks after Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, stirred controversy after she suggested money was behind politicians' support for Israel -- she later apologized -- and insinuated that pro-Israel groups were pushing "allegiance to a foreign country."The comments were criticized on both sides of the aisle and prompted the Democratic-led House to 1526

Researchers thought they had a way to keep hard-to-treat patients from constantly returning to the hospital and racking up big medical bills. Health workers visited homes, went along to doctor appointments, made sure medicines were available and tackled social problems including homelessness, addiction and mental health issues.Readmissions seemed to drop. The program looked so promising that the federal government and the MacArthur Foundation gave big bucks to expand it beyond Camden, New Jersey, where it started. But a more robust study released Wednesday revealed it was a stunning failure on its main goal: Readmission rates did decline, but by the same amount as for a comparison group of similar patients not in the costly program.“There’s real concern that the response to this would be to just throw up our arms” and say nothing can be done to help these so-called frequent fliers of the medical system, said study leader Amy Finkelstein.Instead, researchers need to seek better solutions and test them as rigorously as new drugs, said Finkelstein, of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the National Bureau of Economic Research.Federal grants and research groups at MIT paid for the study, which was 1236

REDMOND, Ore. – Prosecutors say a man has been charged with attempted murder and hate crimes after breaking into a motel office and attacking a 70-year-old immigrant from India who owns the business with her husband, who is also an immigrant. The husband said his wife remains in the hospital with injuries to her throat, a broken shoulder and black eye after the Dec. 31 attack at the Hub Motel in Redmond, Oregon. However, she is expected to survive. 464

Rep. Tim Ryan announced Thursday that he's running for president. The announcement on his campaign website came shortly before the Democrat appeared on "The View.""As a congressman from Youngstown, Ohio for almost 20 years, I've watched the American Dream slip through the fingers of many Americans," Ryan says on the website. "That's why I am running for President. It's time to do something."Ryan, who has served in Congress since 2003, began considering a 2020 bid in 2018, as he traveled across the country stumping for Democrats running for office and, indirectly, testing the waters on a presidential bid.Ryan enters the presidential race as a longshot candidate with less name recognition than most candidates and a far smaller political network. The field is also already sizable and growing: Democrats are waiting on former Vice President Joe Biden to decide on a run, along with former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado, Gov. Steve Bullock of Montana and Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts."As I travel through Ohio and the country, I've been inspired by the solutions that exist. On every issue, from manufacturing, to health care, to schools and education, to taking care of and healing our Vets, I find brilliant Americans who are innovating and creating REAL solutions," Ryan wrote. "And our current government and leaders are in the way of these solutions being implemented on a broad scale. We must invest in and bring the solutions that are working to communities across the country."Ryan has become most known in Democratic circles for his opposition to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi holding her leadership positions. But those efforts have failed, and even Ryan voted for Pelosi earlier this year when Democrats picked their next House leader after taking back the chamber in 2018.Ryan told CNN in February that he was "seriously considering" a presidential run, but that he didn't "feel any pressure for any timeline at this point.""The country is divided," he added. "We can't get anything done because of these huge divisions that we have."Ryan, according to advisers close to him, plans to run as the Democrats' best hope for winning back white, working class voters who left the party in 2016. The likelihood of a Ryan run increased earlier this year when Sen. Sherrod Brown, a better-known Ohio Democrat, declined to run for President.Ryan told CNN in 2018 that he felt a pull between challenging Pelosi, which he didn't do, and vying for a chance to take on Trump."The speaker thing is obviously a narrower universe," he said. "But I do well with the public. I do well with voters. I enjoy it. I enjoy learning from them and getting to know them. And I have always been that kind of person. It is part of my personality."The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2019 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. All rights reserved. 2880
