"Can a doctor really properly diagnose the dehydration over tele-medicine?"Flynn says Telehealth is great for those over the age of 40, who know and understand their bodies. But he says it's not great for the younger population, who don't really know that much about their health.If you still like going into the doctors office to be treated, Flynn says, a little secret in the health world in that some doctors will take cash for an in-person consultation. And if you have insurance, make sure to check your plan doesn't already offer virtual chats before you go through CVS.   1880

Horseshoe crabs are prehistoric creatures that predate the dinosaurs, but pharmaceutical companies depend on them to this day for their unique blue blood.The crabs’ blood is hypersensitive to endotoxins, making it the perfect testing ground to see if a coronavirus vaccine is harmful to people."The fact that we rely so much on these really primitive creatures that predate the dinosaurs," said Barbara Brummer, the state director of The Nature Conservancy in New Jersey.From Massachusetts to South Carolina, the crabs are collected and taken to laboratories. But one of their largest breeding grounds is right in New Jersey, in the Delaware Bay."The concern is the population of horseshoe crabs in the Delaware Bay has been declining over the years," said Brummer. "They are needed for the ecological value they bring for shorebirds.”Shorebirds rely on the crabs' millions of eggs for food.New Jersey fishermen are banned from using the crabs for bait. But pharmaceutical companies remove about a half-million horseshoe crabs from the ocean every year.In the labs, about one-third of a crab's blood is removed for testing. If the crab's blue blood clots up, the medicine is no good.The crabs are then returned to the ocean.However, a study by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission estimates about 15% of the crabs do not survive."There is an alternative test," Brummer said. "They have created a test that does not involve the bleeding of the crabs. GRAND BLANC, Mich. - A 17-year-old is in trouble with Michigan State Police and, most likely, his parents after being clocked doing 138 miles an hour on I-75 in near Grand Blanc.The incident happened at around 8:45 p.m. on November 23.Troopers clocked the 2012 Chevy as it was in the left lane of Northbound I-75. Troopers say the driver tried to "duck off" onto E Holly Road but was caught by the trooper.According to MSP, the driver said he was "traveling so fast and passing other cars and sucking in and out of lanes" because he was late for his 9:30 curfew.MSP says the trooper "gave the kid a break" on a reckless driving charged, but did give him a ticket for going 138 mph in a 70 mph zone and "the SMH award."His ticket carries an unknown fine and four points. 777

Homeowners in City Heights say the neighborhood isn't keeping up with the cost of living. While home prices are on the rise, development plans have come to a halt. Paul Smith is trying to transform City Heights. "They're still equating it to a high crime area or a place not worth investing in," said Smith. Like everywhere else in San Diego, the cost of living there is going up. "People are taking advantage of a housing shortage right now," said Smith. "So they can demand top dollar for their house. Because someone's willing to pay for it."He's been remodeling his home for the past 18 months. Many of his neighbors are doing the same. "We're seeing numbers in the 0's range now, 0, and I'd say probably five years ago you could buy a house for under 0,000."But, he says businesses in the area aren't adapting to the change. "It's constantly having to go over to North Park to look for services or South Park, outside the community."While some shops are moving in, he says it's simply not enough. "New businesses are seeming to move in, but there isn't a massive influx of investments like you're seeing in North Park and other areas," said Smith. "So we're seeing a lot of vacancies here."Those businesses would help build an even stronger community. "I don't always want to have to leave my neighborhood and to another area just to go get groceries, or go to a restaurant to eat," said Smith. For him, it can't come soon enough. "Change kind of is coming, but more needs to happen."The city did work on a redevelopment project in City Heights several years ago. GREELEY, Colo. — At the conclusion of his statement, Frank Rzucek, the father of Shanann Watts, said he has a message for Chris Watts, who sat silently behind him in an orange jumpsuit in court.Without turning, he read his last sentence: “Shanann says she’s super excited for justice today.”Frank Rzucek was the first person to read a statement at Monday’s sentencing hearing for Watts, who pleaded guilty on Nov. 6 to killing his pregnant wife Shanann, and their two daughters, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, in August in the small town of Frederick, Colorado.“I trusted you to take care of them, not kill them,” Frank Rzucek said in the court. “And they also trusted you.”He said after their murders, Watts carried them out of the house “like trash,” buried Shannan in a shallow grave and put the girls in used containers of crude oil, noting that he had watched video surveillance.“You heartless monster,” he said. “You have to live with this vision every day of your life and I hope you see it every time you close your eyes at night.”Shanann’s brother, Frank Rzucek, Jr., echoed those sentiments in his statement, saying he prays Watts never finds a moment of peace or sleeps well at night. Rourke read the brother's statement while he stood next to the podium.“You went from being my brother, my sister’s protector, one of those most loved people in my family, to someone I will spend the rest of my life trying to understand,” the statement read.He said he wrote the statement full of hate and betrayal. They trusted him to keep them safe.As Rourke read the statements to the court, Frank Rzucek, Jr. looked back at Watts, who barely raised his eyes from the table in front of him throughout the sentencing.  “You took away my family from this earth, but you can never take them from my heart,” the brother's statement read. “You took away my privilege of being an uncle to the most precious little girls I have ever known.”Frank Rzucek, Jr. explained that his family did not want to pursue the death penalty because they believe nobody has the right to take the life of another.“My family and I can finally grieve after today," his statement read. "If anything, we will come out of this stronger than we were before, and we will continue to pray for your family.”The final member of the Rzucek family to speak was Sandra Rzucek, Shanann’s mother. She started her statements by thanking those who had helped her family, ranging from the town of Frederick to the FBI. She also thanked everybody who had sent the family cards, prayers and kind messages, which came in from all over the world, she said.She wore a purple ribbon at the podium, which has become a sign to honor the memory Shannan and her children in Frederick.Shanann loved Watts and their children with all of her heart, she said. Her family was her world.“We loved you like a son,” she said at the podium. “We trusted you. Your faithful wife trusted you. Your children adored you. And they also trusted you.”They will stay protected by God and his angels, she said, and her family will continue loving them.“Not only did you take a family of four — your family of four,” she said. “You took your own life.”Watts was sentenced to five life sentences with no possibility of parole on Monday.  3496
