The roller coaster is already being billed as the "tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster in California," and the only floorless dive coaster in the state. The San Diego City Council gave the 153-foot ride unanimous approval last April, allowing SeaWorld to exceed the city's 30-foot height limitation in coastal zones.RELATED: SeaWorld San Diego brings back its popular annual SoCal PassSeaWorld says construction on Mako should begin in the next few months. The ride, announced in January, will be constructed by Switzerland-based Bollinger & Mabillard. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some San Diego fitness studios and hotels are getting creative by working together.F45 Training San Diego East Village and the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego are partnering to offer outdoor fitness classes this weekend.George Chmiel, the F45 studio owner, said that when they heard about the new public health orders to shut down more indoor spaces, they immediately looked for outdoor space.Meanwhile, the nearby Hard Rock Hotel San Diego has an 8,700 square foot rooftop terrace that's sitting empty. It's typically used for events and parties, but none are happening due to the pandemic. The hotel has allowed F45 to use the space without charge."Two industries that have been hurt by this current situation we're going through, are the hospitality and fitness industries," said Rana Kay, the director of communications at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego. "We feel the pain at the gyms when they were recently shut down once again.""I think it's a great collaboration of businesses that have just gotten kicked in the face to find a unique way to weather the storm and potentially grow through this," Chmiel said.Chmiel says the plan is to hold one class on Saturdays and Sundays, and two classes on the weekdays.Kay says it could also benefit their guests. They hope people staying at the hotel will eventually take part in the classes as an option because fitness areas in the hotel are currently closed.Hapa Yoga & Fitness in Mission Valley says they have also turned to hotels since their indoor studio space closed. They are renting outdoor space at the nearby Marriott in Mission Valley. 1620

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State Students created public service announcements, as part of a competition, to encourage their peers to take precautions and stop the spread of the coronavirus. Thursday the university announced two more students tested positive for the virus, making the total four since move in.The County of San Diego and SDSU will use the PSAs online as part of a new ad campaign, according to the county. The university came to the county amid a spike in cases among young people age 20-29. San Diego County reported 25% of positive cases belong to that age group."We're asking people of your generation of your age group to do the right thing," Dr. Hala Madanat, Director of the School of Public Health at SDSU, said. She led the charge to create the competition."I really was hoping that we would hear from the age group where we were struggling to get adherence to the guidelines and be the ones to encourage their peers," to follow the guidelines she said. One of the three winners, Senior JakeBryan Bonifacio, said he felt an obligation to use his skills to help. "It [the pandemic] is very concerning so that’s why I felt compelled to share this opportunity, share my video."Bonifacio is a Marketing major and already had the tools to create a video. He said he used his own camera and editing software. He said it was most important to create an impact using levity and positivity. He used his pup to demonstrate social distancing, "He’s the star of the show... animals bring that lovability."While he is optimistic, he hopes to be a leader for change, to protect his peers and those more vulnerable, like his grandmothers. The winners were announced August 10th and received Apple AirPods, according to Bonifacio.SDSU has 29 confirmed coronavirus cases since March, encompassing students, staff and visitors. 1840
