BEIJING Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- United States President Barack Obama Tuesday said the U.S. government recognizes that Tibet is part of the People's Republic of China.     He also said that the United States supports the early resumption of dialogue between the Chinese government and representatives of the ** Lama to resolve any concerns and differences that the two sides may have.     "The United States respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China," Obama said at a joint press conference with Chinese President Hu Jintao at Beijing's Great Hall of the People.   

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua)-- According to the China-US Joint Statement issued here Tuesday, China and the United States recognize common interests in promoting the peaceful use of outer space and agree to enhance security in outer space.     The statement said the two sides believed that China-US cooperation on common global challenges would contribute to a more prosperous and secure world.     "China and the U.S. agree to discuss issues of strategic importance through such channels as the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogues and the military-to-military exchanges," said the statement.     It said both leaders reaffirmed their commitment made on June 27, 1998 not to target at each other the strategic nuclear weapons under their respective control.     The two sides agreed to handle, through existing channels of consultations and dialogues, military security and maritime issues in keeping with norms of international law and on the basis of respecting each other's jurisdiction and interests, said the statement.     The statement was signed during President Obama' s first official visit to China between November 15 and 18. 

COPENHAGEN, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Wednesday evening for the ongoing UN Climate Change Conference.     Wen told reporters aboard his special plane that his attendance at the meeting aims to show the great importance the Chinese government and people attach to climate change and to assert their sincerity and determination to work with the international community to meet this global challenge. It aims to map out a comprehensive international arrangement for the fight against climate change over the period 2012-2020.

ADELAIDE, Australia, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- China Giant Pandas Wang Wang and Funi arrived at Australia's Adelaide airport on a chartered jumbo jet from China on Saturday. The pandas were welcomed at their new digs in the Adelaide Zoo after arriving in a climate-controlled semi-trailer escorted by police.     They will spend the next 30 days in quarantine in their specially built enclosure at the Zoo before going to the public on Dec. 13.     The CEO of Adelaide Zoo Dr. Chris West and the Cultural Councilor of Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Australia Ke Yasha with a crowd of about 100 local people greeted them at the Airport.     Ke said, "Nearly 400 Chinese people welcomed the arrival of the Giant Pandas in Chinatown despite the poor weather." BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Wednesday China and the United States should make joint efforts to push forward cooperation on clean energy and climate change in a substantial way.     Wen said such cooperation is important work and in the interests of both countries and the world. He said the two countries should advance cooperation in this area to bring benefit to the human beings and future generations.     Wen made the remarks when meeting with participants of the Strategic Forum for U.S.-China Clean Energy Cooperation that began in Beijing Wednesday. The forum will last to Friday.     The forum was co-sponsored by the Chinese think tank China Institute of Strategy and Management and the Brookings Institution of the United States. Participants include Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and high-ranking officials from both governments. He said bilateral cooperation in this area has strategic significance and broad prospect.     Wen said the two sides should earnestly implement the agreement on the 10-year energy and environment cooperation framework they signed in June, 2008.     He called for the governments, enterprises and researching institutes of both countries to join effort for this end.     Wen said energy efficiency and environment protection are both a basic strategy of China to achieve sustainable economic and social development and a major measure to cope with climate changes.     The American guests made positive comments on the efforts that China has made in developing clean energy and addressing climate changes.     They expressed the wish that the two countries should set up common targets and carry out constructive, practical cooperation in this respect.
