(KGTV) - A mother took on the mission to organize donations for Americans evacuated from China, amid coronavirus concerns.Erin Dockery, wife of Commanding Officer of MCAS Miramar Charles Dockery, never thought in a million years that 240 evacuees would be in quarantine on base. But as soon as they came, she recognized they had a lot in common."We are a community that is familiar with loss, with heartache, with anxiety," Dockery said.RELATED: Second group of coronavirus evacuees released from quarantine at MCAS MiramarShe wasted no time jumping in to help, asking her husband for a point of contact and meeting with Health and Human Services Representatives to ask what they need."My original question was can we send letters, and then it grew to monstrous proportions," Dockery said. "Young children in China eat a lot of eggs, hard-boiled eggs and they were having a hard time satiating that need ... How do you say no to the babies?" she asked. I was like, 'can you take pictures?' MILWAUKEE — Protesters marched the 38 miles between Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Milwaukee on Tuesday to call for justice for Jacob Blake and encourage early voting.The Jacob Blake “Rally for Justice” began just after midnight in Kenosha, and the marchers wound its way through the streets of southeastern Wisconsin more than 30 miles to downtown Milwaukee nearly 18 hours later.Organizers hope the energy from the march will carry voters to the ballot boxes this month, as early voting gets underway in Wisconsin.Tanya McClean, the executive director of Leaders of Kenosha, led the group on the march.“We’re going to continue fighting for Jacob and all the families that have lost love ones to police brutality,” McClean said.Jacob Blake’s uncle says the support for his nephew is appreciated.“These people walked 38 miles baby, that’s commitment for justice for little Jake,” Justin Blake said.Justin Blake also demanded that Kenosha Police Officer Rusten Sheskey be fired, indicted, and convicted. Sheskey shot Jacob Blake seven times in the back in August, leaving him paralyzed.Justin Blake said the family would ask local elected officials to make a pledge against systemic racism.“We’re going to ask you to sign a document to tell us where you stand on the shooting that you saw and the whole world saw. So that people can vote consciously about where you stand on systemic racism” Justin Blake said.Justin Blake says his nephew remains paralyzed from the waist down in an Illinois rehabilitation center, working on his upper body strength.The investigation into the shooting has been handed over to an independent consultant. NATIONAL CITY — SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Trash is increasing along San Diego freeways and homelessness appears to one of the driving factors, Caltrans reports.Caltrans officials held a news conference Thursday to raise awareness of the growing problem and encourage people to do the right thing. While Caltrans has no statistics, the agency says its crews are seeing more homeless encampments along local freeways, especially through urban areas, and officials believe that's contributing to the increasing litter. "The encampments in the right of way do generate trash," said Mario Orso, Project Director for Caltrans in District 11, which covers San Diego and Imperial Counties. He stood along an on-ramp to I-805 in National City as it was being cleaned by a contracted litter crew. Orso and other Caltrans officials said along with more homeless encampments producing trash, the problem appears to be on the rise from drivers as well, especially those transporting loads of trash or refuse to landfills without properly tying down their loads. San Diego is not alone, Orso said, as Caltrans officials up and down the state are holding news conferences to increase awareness and encourage people to act responsibly.Orso said trash pickup along freeways puts those who have to clean it up, like Caltrans workers, contractors and corrections inmates, at risk. Caltrans says most of the trash is in metro areas along the 5 and 805.They're urging volunteers to get involved through the Adopt a Highway program; helping clean up a section of highway on their choosing on a periodic basis. 1589

MILWAUKEE — Christopher R. Ward has been charged with second-degree reckless homicide in the death of 14-year-old Jada Wright. Police responded to the scene late last Wednesday night at their home on the city's northwest side. According to police, Jada has cerebral palsy, and Ward was her personal care worker. Initially, the 18-year-old defendant reported to police that Jada had complications with her feeding earlier that night. He said was not involved in her death, and claimed she had a history of injuring herself.Jada's school physical therapist said she never saw Jada injure herself. She also said Jada was missing from school for a month.Ward was taken into custody after an autopsy revealed blunt force trauma to her abdomen.After further questioning, Ward admitted he had become frustrated with the girl while trying to feed her through her feeding tube. She had maneuvered her tube out of her stomach, frustrating him further. In response, he punched her in the stomach. Ward reconnected her tube and left the room. Upon returning, he saw she had vomited on herself, and did not seek additional care for her or tell first responders about his actions.    1207
