(KGTV) -- A family of out-of-state vacationers was displaced after a dryer in the home they were renting caught fire.Firefighters were called to the home, located on the 1000 block of South Pacific Street, shortly after midnight Sunday.After arriving, firefighters discovered that a clothes dryer near a downstairs bedroom of the home was on fire.Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames, but not before a woman in her 60s suffered smoke inhalation.Crews say seven adults and none children staying in the two-unit home were displaced by the fire.Firefighters from Camp Pendleton, Vista and Carlsbad assisted. On Thursday, Louisville Metro Council passed a no-confidence resolution against Mayor Greg Fischer and gave him a list of ways to earn back the community's trust.According to CNN, the amended resolution passed 22-4.Instead of firing the mayor, the Council gave Fischer a list of actions he can work on to "restore trust between the residents of Louisville Metro and its government and ensure the safety and equality of all its residents."The list includes:Address policing policy, social inequality, environmental inequality, and economic inequality to council members, the business community, and the non-profit sectorWork with the Kentucky Attorney General to ensure the "complete investigative findings" of Breonna Taylor's death, David McAtee's death, and the civil unrest that followed are shared with the public after the investigation. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - An Oceanside man says he and his puppy were mauled by an unleashed dog while out for an evening walk. On Monday around 11 p.m. near Albertsons on Mission Avenue, Kevin Humphrey was taking his 7-month-old terrier mix Stitch out for his final walk when he saw a homeless man and his brown-and-white pit bull, loose. Humphrey says the owner managed to catch up to the dog and leash him.Humphrey went on with his walk along the back side of the shopping center, when he says he saw the dog, unleashed again. Humphrey picked his dog up and started running, but didn't get far."It just starts biting at me and biting at me. He tries to bite my dog's throat out," said Humphrey.Humphrey says the dog bit him in the back and arm before latching onto his puppy's throat. His puppy's life on the line, Humphrey jammed his hand into pit bull's jaws."I put my hand in the dog's mouth so he wouldn't bite. I'm crying, 'Don't kill my dog! Don't kill my dog!" said Humphrey.After a tortuous 20 minutes, the dog finally let go. Humphrey raced to get help for his dog and then himself. Stitch suffered more than a dozen bites. For Humphrey, torn tendons and bone fragments in his hand led to two surgeries.The San Diego Humane Society says the homeless man contends Humphrey went into his tent and provoked his 4-year-old dog, which Humphrey denies. The pit bull is under a 10-day quarantine. If he's reclaimed, he'll have to wear a muzzle. 1458

On Tuesday evening, researchers tracing an Orca whale that has been carrying her dead calf on her nose saw the whale still doing so.It isn't unusual for Orcas to carry their babies who die for about a day. This is the first time scientists studying the behavior have seen one do it for this long.The activity is stressful for the 20-year-old whale mother named Tahlequah. EcoWatch reports the baby's carcass sinks, and the mother has to retrieve it and push it along with her nose in sometimes choppy waters.Tahlequah was spotted Tuesday evening in waters near British Columbia's Southern Gulf Islands, the Seattle Times said.According to the Seattle Times, this is the first time in three years an endangered Orca has given birth. 759
