The House Intelligence Committee on Saturday released a Democratic memo in redacted form that seeks to undercut Republican claims of FBI surveillance abuses.The committee made the Democratic memo public after the White House signed off following negotiations between the FBI and the committee's top Democrat, Rep. The nation’s air traffic control system is losing controllers faster than it can hire people, according to the Air Traffic Controllers union.“If we don't have enough controllers to open all the positions and we have to combine up positions we have to reduce the capacity,” said Paul Rinaldi, the union’s president.He says the effects of not enough controllers have affected flights in the past."We have seen some situations last summer where we didn't have enough controllers at the facility where airlines did cancel flights," he said. "Right now we're at a 30-year low of certified controllers in a system."In 2017, 1,848 controllers left the job due to retirements, promotions or other reasons, according to the FAA’s Controller staffing report released this year.The FAA hired 1,880 people to be new controllers last year. That’s a gain of 32 controllers. But of the number hired, the FAA lost 735 people who did not pass the required training academy.Only 1,145 passed, far fewer than the number of controllers who left the job last year."We'll keep trying to keep up with attrition and we haven't been able to do that," Rinaldi said.He says if the problem isn’t addressed differently than it currently is, we can expect to be inconvenienced in the future when we fly."You will have some delays on the ground maybe even holding in the air depending on what the staffing looks at looks like at that facility," Rinaldi said. 1435

The lake in California, where former "Glee" star Naya Rivera tragically drowned in July, has reopened and banned swimming.The Lake Piru Recreational Area reopened on Aug. 20, according to the park's Facebook page.The park had been closed since July 9, since the actress first went missing.The park continued to stay close due to the coronavirus pandemic and the wildfires ravaging California.Still, residents told TMZ that they believe the park's restrictions somehow related to Rivera drowning in the Ventura County lake.Since reopening, the park has put precautions, including a swimming ban, the park's website stated.The park says shore fishing, personal watercraft, and boating activities are permitted.Rivera went missing on July 8 while boating with her 4-year-old son at the lake. Ventura County Sheriff's Office said Rivera rented a boat at the lake and excursed her son.Authorities were alerted when other boaters later found Rivera's boat drifting in the northern portion of the lake with her son sleeping onboard.Rivera's body was found on July 13.At the time, Sheriff Bill Ayub said Rivera and her son were swimming when the actress began to get tired. He thinks Rivera mustered enough energy to get her son on the boat but couldn't climb back in herself.Investigators believe Rivera drowned in what appears to be a "tragic accident," the office wrote in a press release.On July 14, an autopsy by the Ventura County Medical Examiner revealed Rivera's death as drowning.Her death certificate, which was obtained by People and The Blast, said the actress died within a "manner of minutes."After Rivera's death, a petition on Change.org was created urging park officials to put signs up warning swimmers of how dangerous the lake was.According to the Los Angeles Times, seven people have drowned in the lake between 1994 and 2000. 1848

The IRS announced this week it has extended the deadline for those who did not file a tax return the last two years to request a ,200 stimulus check. The deadline, which was previously slated for October 15, will now be on November 21.The economic stimulus checks, which millions of Americans received during the spring and early summer, is for most American adults earning less than ,000 a year. The IRS paid the checks out to those who either file an annual tax return or receive government benefits. American adults who are not considered a dependent, such as young adults living at home, and do not file a tax return are required to submit a form to the IRS. The form is available on the IRS’ website."We took this step to provide more time for those who have not yet received a payment to register to get their money, including those in low-income and underserved communities," said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. "The IRS is deeply involved in processing and programming that overlaps filing seasons. Any further extension beyond November would adversely impact our work on the 2020 and 2021 filing seasons.
