A brawl broke out during a sentencing Wednesday afternoon of a former daycare owner accused of reckless homicide in the death of a 7-week-old baby in her care.37-year-old Claudette Mitchell was being sentenced for charges related to the death of a 2-month-old child that died while in Mitchell's care last August at "WHO'S LUVIN YOU" daycare. Mitchell ran the daycare out of her home on Milwaukee's northside. A criminal complaint says Mitchell told police she put the baby down for a nap and when she checked on her about an hour later she was unresponsive and had scratches and blood on her face. Court documents show the baby suffered multiple fractures to her skull and bruising all over her body. Forensic investigators believe the baby died of blunt force trauma to the head.  Mitchell received a sentence of 42 months, and upon release, 48 months of supervision. Following the sentencing, an altercation broke out between 50 members of Mitchell's and the victim's families and friends according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.Additional deputies and district attorney investigators were called to the room to restore order. Authorities say additional security had been in place prior to the altercation but Mitchell's loved ones did not comply with deputies’ orders to remain in the courtroom while the victim’s family was being escorted out. 1407

A Howard County, Maryland fire fighter and first responder wasn’t even working when he risked his own life to save another.  Ryan Glenn said it was just instinct.  Glenn said he was driving along The Chesapeake Bay Bridge when he saw a man threatening to jump.  “I saw the gentleman standing on the railing and he was on the railing holding on to the guardrail,” said Glenn.At it’s center, The Chesapeake Bay Bridge is 180 feet, a dizzying height for anyone. Glenn was off duty, happened to be on the bridge and jumped in to help.“I said hey, there’s a lot of people who care about you.  Let’s not do this, come down and talk.  I’m here for you, I care about you,” Glenn told the distraught man.With the help of two other off duty officers, who just happened to be on the bridge as well, Glenn began the negotiating.“I managed to get closer and closer to him and probably about two feet away from him, I said, just take my hand and let’s get you down from here.”But that’s not what happened. “He looks down at the water and looked at me again and then he did the unthinkable.  He went from the railing of the bridge to a cross member I-beam type of material on the bridge and jumped on it.  At that point, he was just holding on by his grip and his feet were dangling over the water” remembered Glenn.As a trained professional, Glenn was comfortable risking his own life to save another.“At that point, all three of us, it was just like instinct, all three of us, reached over the railing and grabbed him and pulled him over,” Glenn said.“You’re conditioned to it, if you see something wrong, we run to the problem, we try to fix things.”The man was taken to safety and then to the hospital for treatment. 1758

Health experts have found it is more infectious than the original virus.“Let me tell you what, there is no evidence of nor reason to believe, it is not any more lethal or any more dangerous than the normal coronavirus, no evidence to suggest that, no reason to believe it,” said Admiral Brett Giroir, Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).The variant has already been found in Australia, Denmark, South Africa and the Netherlands. Italy reports it has at least one patient infected with the mutation.While the U.K. works to control the new variant, several countries have banned flights coming from there, as well as countries where they've seen such infections.Despite the mutation, health officials remain adamant that it's important to get the COVID-19 vaccine.“There is also no evidence to suggest nor reason to believe that it would evade our vaccines that we have right now. A father accused of killing his three children during a domestic dispute near Sacramento, California was arrested on Thursday, ABC News reports. Robert Hodges is in a California jail while he awaits formal charges. ABC reports that he is being held without bail until he faces a judge on Monday. The Yolo County Coroner told ABC News the children were 11 years old, 9 years old and 8 months old when they were allegedly killed by Hodges Wednesday evening. Police said that the children's mother was injured during the domestic assualt. Her injuries are unknown. Neighbors reported to dispatchers a domestic incident to police around 9 p.m. local time Wednesday. Several people who knew Hodges and the victims said they were unaware of any domestic violence in the family. "The kids seemed jolly most of the time, seemed happy.
