(KGTV) — Police have arrested a North County doctor accused of sexually assaulting a patient.On March 28, Escondido Police say a woman reported being sexually assaulted while unconscious by Dr. Leng Thai Ky, a 40-year-old anesthesiologist from Poway.EPD detectives investigated the woman's report over the weekend, and arrested Ky on Monday with the help of the U.S. Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force.Ky, a doctor for the last eight years, has associations with Palomar Hospital, North County Pain Institute, Sharp Community Medical Group, Graybill Medical Group, and the Desert Pain Clinic in Rancho Mirage, EPD says.Police believe there are more, unidentified victims of Ky and urge anyone with information to call EPD at 760-839-4790. 760

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - The North County finally has its own comedy club. The Grand Comedy Club opened on Grand Avenue in Escondido late in 2019 and reports growing crowds over its first 10 weeks. "I think people need a good laugh, nowadays. It's really great to see people leaving here happy and telling their friends, and their friends refer their friends. It's great to bring something back to my hometown that the locals really dig and have fun at," said owner Adam Wasserman.Wasserman is a property manager who has performed as a part-time stand up comedian for 11 years. He began thinking of starting his own club, and wanted it to be in Escondido. "You had to go downtown or La Jolla to go to shows. It's a long way to go and and parking and everything. I always thought 'Why was there never a club here in North County?'" Wasserman said.The headliners are typically brought in from Los Angeles, while many of the supporting acts are comedians from San Diego. Wasserman says they're seeing ticket sales from across North County. "We have several nice restaurants, but after you have dinner, that's it. There's nowhere to go," said Escondido resident Jacqueline Lawhorn. "At least now you can come here and enjoy a night of comedy."The opening of the Grand Comedy Club is just the latest step in Escondido's attempt to revitalize its downtown area and make it into more of destination spot. The hope is to give locals an option to spend their money closer to home, and to draw people from neighboring cities into Escondido businesses."You'd have to go to La Jolla or Orange County or whatever," said attendee Gary Arant, who has already gone to several shows at the club. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - The recent birth of a southern white rhino calf marks a major success milestone in the project to save the species' close genetic cousin, the northern white rhino. Only two northern whites are left in the world. Both are females incapable of reproducing.Edward, the calf born in late July, was conveived through in vitro fertilization using frozen sperm samples. "It was so exciting for everyone who worked on this project, the culmination of a very long time and a lot of work," said Dr. Barbara Durrant, a scientist who has worked on the in vitro aspect of the project.Still, Durrant says this milestone still comes during the early stage of the audacious plan. Scientists eventually hope to create northern white embryos with stem cells. Those embryos would then be transferred into female southern white rhinos, who would deliver and raise the calves. The Safari Park brought six females to its facility to act as surrogates, including Victoria, the female who gave birth to Edward.Durrant is excited to move to the next step."We're turning our efforts more toward the lab, toward figuring out how to do the in vitro fertilization and the embryo development.Durrant estimates as long as ten years until the project finally leads to a living northern white rhino calf.Edward is currently being kept in a part of the Safari Park to which the public does not have access.
