SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A two-car collision killed at least one person in San Ysidro early Friday morning.According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:15 a.m. when a red car got off state Route 905 at the Caliente Avenue exit, then hit a sign before crashing into a black SUV.The SUV spun around and landed in a nearby ditch. That driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the red vehicle died at the scene.The cause of the crash is unclear. Caliente Avenue was closed for a few hours while CHP investigated. 567

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A University City woman is searching desperately for what she says is worthless to a thief, but priceless to her.Cassie Moua's wedding outfit, which her grandmother made for her over 15 years, was stolen out of the trunk of her husband's car the week after her wedding. "It's been sitting in a closet for 15 years, waiting for the day I get married," Cassie said. "I get married and a week later, it's gone."Cassie married David Lawrence on Feb. 29 at her father's house in Scripps Ranch. She wore a traditional Hmong wedding outfit, including a black jacket with embroidery, a black apron with embroidery, and a white skirt with a pink belt. That dress, however, is now in the hands of a thief. Sometime during the night of Friday, March 6, a thief got into David's car, stealing the suitcase from the trunk with the wedding outfit inside. Cassie says there were no signs of forcible entry and she believes the thief may have used a device to spoof the remote and unlock the car. It was parked in the lot of their apartment complex, near the corner of Nobel and Cargill Avenue in North University City.Cassie says she went to the car on Saturday morning to go grocery shopping, and saw the hood popped, trunk opened, glove compartment ajar, and items spread out all over the seats. She says she does not care about other stolen items like a pet transporter and tire chains stolen, but is now on a mission to get the outfit back. "Since it happened, I've been driving around the neighborhood, looking in little pockets and corners, hoping to see abandoned clothes or an abandoned suitcase," she said. Cassie has since posted more than 20 fliers in the area around her complex. She hopes to get the outfit back to keep as a family heirloom, and that if the thief has a change of heart - no questions asked. San Diego Police say there is no suspect identified. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Among the propositions that will be on the November ballot in California, Proposition 17 will ask voters to decide whether or not to allow individuals on parole to vote.Voters will vote "yes" or "no" on the proposition, which is an amendment to the state's constitution introduced by Sacramento Assemblymember Kevin McCarty, according to BallotPedia.In California, those who are "mentally incompetent or imprisoned or on parole for the conviction of a felony" for a state or federal sentence are not allowed to vote.The passage of Proposition 17 would instead direct the state to only disqualify those who are currently serving a sentence for the conviction of a felony and allow those on parole for a felony conviction to vote."Parole is not an extension of punishment. It's a reintegration time for someone to come back in their community," says Shay Franco-Clausen, the Yes on Prop 17 Campaign Manager. "What better way to make them feel that they have a stake in the community is there than giving the right to them."Those who support Prop 17 argue, "when a person completes their prison sentence, they should be encouraged to reenter society and have a stake in their community. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego man whose bike was stolen, decided to track the thief himself. But instead of turning him in, he turned the situation into something positive. Rob Greenfield never thought he'd see his bamboo bike again. “I didn’t lock it because I was sitting 20 feet from it and then I heard a noise and I looked back and saw the guy speeding off into the night with it.” When he found the thief, he didn't turn him in. He pulled him in for a hug, forgave him and took his bike back.  “It’s one of a kind bamboo bike but really what makes it special is that I’ve biked across the United States on it doing good deeds," he said. "So I’ve traveled thousands of miles across the country.” The theft made him want to do more good deeds, right here in San Diego. “I decided that rather than turning that into a really negative situation I would turn it into a positive situation," he said. "Knowing the feeling of having a bike stolen I decided I wanted to give bikes to kids who have had their bikes stolen and can’t afford a new one.” Greenfield started a GoFundMe to raise money for bikes. Bikes that he would then donate to the Boys and Girls Club - to kids whose bikes were stolen. He says it's a lesson in kindness that he hopes the thief who took his bike, and the kids who were given bikes, will pass on.“I can crowd out the bad with lots of good.
