GUANLING, Guizhou, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu Tuesday urged local government to use all resources to rescue victims of a landslide in southwest China's Guizhou Province.Rescuers should save the lives of the victims and treat the wounded using all possible means, said Hui during an inspection tour of the disaster-hit area from late Monday to Tuesday.He also called for the utmost efforts to properly resettle people affected by the landslide and sounded caution regarding additional landslides.He said all areas prone to landslides should be examined closely and nearby residents must be evacuated immediately upon any sign of an impending landslide.Further, information about the disaster relief efforts should be made public in a timely, objective, open and transparent manner, said Hui.The landslide occurred at 2:30 p.m. on Monday in Dazhai Village, Gangwu Township of Guanling County, burying 107 people from 38 families. Rescuers said their chances of survival were slim.
BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese government official said Sunday China had approved renewing the operation license of Beijing Guxiang Information Technology Co. Ltd., operator of Google's China website.The official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), who spoke anonymously, told Xinhua that the result of its annual checkup on Google was "Approved after Rectification."Guxiang submitted an application letter to the MIIT on June 29 to renew Google's Internet Content Provider (ICP) license, a permit to run websites in China.In the application letter, Guxiang pledged to "abide by Chinese law," and "ensure the company provides no law-breaking content as stipulated in the 57th statement in China's regulations concerning telecommunications."The statement says that any organization or individual is prohibited from using the Internet to spread any content that attempts to subvert state power, undermine national security, infringe on national reputation and interests, or that incites ethnic hatred and secession, transmits pornography or violence.Guxiang also accepted that all content it provides is subject to supervision of government regulators, said the official.

PIRAEUS, Greece, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese naval escort warships arrived in Greece's Piraeus Port on Monday, kicking off a five-day visit.The vessels, destroyer Guangzhou and frigate Chaohu, are part of the fifth Chinese naval escort flotilla, which just completed the escort mission in the Gulf of Aden and Somali waters to protect commercial ships from pirate attacks.Chinese Ambassador to Greece Luo Linquan and some 200 Chinese nationals came to the port to welcome the arrival of the two Chinese warships. Waving Chinese and Greek national flags, the enthusiastic Chinese living in Greece greeted the Chinese sailors with cheers.They were excited when allowed to tour one of the ships."We are so excited to have a chance to board a Chinese naval destroyer," Wu Hailong, a Chinese businessman in Athens, said, adding that he and his friends come to Piraeus early in the morning from central Athens to welcome the Chinese navy soldiers.Zhang Buren, a Chinese national from Taiwan who has lived in Athens for more than three decades, said he was very impressed by the elegant demeanor of Chinese navy soldiers. XI'AN, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Three workers were killed Saturday after a towering crane collapsed at a school building construction site in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, according to local authorities.The accident happened around 1 p.m. when five people were working on the crane at the Shangluo Vocational and Technical College in Shangluo City, said a spokesman with the provincial emergency response office.The operator of the crane and two workers died after falling about 30 meters, while two other workers survived the accident by climbed down from the tower, said the spokesman.Another worker who suffered minor injuries was receiving treatment at hospital, he said.The cause of the accident is under investigation.
