WASHINGTON, D.C. (KGTV) -- President Donald Trump Tuesday night delivered a prime-time address to the nation on border security. All major networks, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox News decided to carry the address. The battle over border security and a border wall has led to a partial government shutdown that has, as of Tuesday, lasted 18 days. In comparison, the longest government shutdown was under former President Bill Clinton and lasted 21 days. President Donald Trump said during the address that there is a "growing humanitarian and security crisis" at the U.S.-Mexico border, though crossings have fallen in recent years.RELATED: What the border looks like now, as President Trump asks for wall fundingThe President added that all Americans are hurt by uncontrolled illegal immigration. He says it strains public resources and drives down jobs and wages. The President says among those hit hardest by illegal immigration are African-Americans and Hispanics. The President is trying to convince Americans that the flow of immigrants into the U.S. illegally at the southern border is a crisis. He asserts that the government remains shut down because Democrats won't fund border security.RELATED: San Diego lawmakers respond to Trump's border wall commentsFollowing his address, Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer stood in a long hallway behind a podium, reinforcing their talking points about misinformation spread by the President. Both Pelosi and Schumer didn't seem to be swayed on whether or not they'd compromise and reopen the government, ensuring that the standoff between Trump and Democrats continues. 1638

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Polls are beginning to close in parts of the U.S. and some Election Day results are coming in.The first states to close at least a portion of their polls are Indiana and Kentucky, at 6 p.m. ET. Those races won’t tell us much, because they’re largely Republican strongholds. Some of the first key states to close their polls are Georgia and Florida at 7 p.m. ET. Not all counties in the Sunshine State will close then, but a good chunk will start reporting around that time. Georgia is a swing state this year, so keep your eyes on the suburbs of Atlanta. At 7:30 p.m. ET, North Carolina and Ohio will close their polls. Ohio is expected to report results right away and a projection in the state is possible on election night. As for North Carolina, the state has ordered some polling locations to stay open longer than 7:30, so don’t expect results from there until after 8 p.m. at least. At 8 p.m. ET, polls will close in Texas, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Although, it’s very unlikely, we will know the results from the last two. State laws prohibit early processing of ballots. At 9 p.m. ET, Arizona, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Nebraska will close polls. Remember, former Vice President Joe Biden could win an electoral college vote in Nebraska, because the state hands out votes based on individual congressional district results. As far as key counties, keep an eye on Cuyahoga County, where Cleveland is. In 2016, 49,000 fewer votes were cast for Hillary Clinton than for Barack Obama in 2012. If turnout is high there, Ohio could be competitive tonight. It’s the same story in Wayne County, Michigan, where Detroit is, where there were over 76,000 fewer votes in 2016. If that county breaks voting records, it could be a good night for Democrats. It’s a similar story tonight in Milwaukee County.Again, the key tonight will be patience. Some states will take a while to count votes this election night. Election officials from coast to coast are telling their workers not to worry about being fast, but to worry about being right. The Senate racesAs the first presidential results gradually come in, don’t forget to keep an eye on the U.S. Senate results as well. After all, whoever wins the presidency will need Congress to help pass their agenda. As a reminder, currently there are 53 Republican senators and 47 Democratic senators. There is a total of 35 Senate races this year. Republicans think they can pick a seat up in Alabama, while Democrats think they are in good position to pick up Arizona, Colorado, North Carolina and Maine.Remember, the Senate confirms judges, helps pass bills and confirms cabinet positions. The presidential raceAs for the race for the White House, one state to keep an eye on is Wisconsin, with 10 electoral college votes. It’s a state President Donald Trump and Joe Biden have campaigned heavily in the last few days. Trump won there in 2016. His margins were thin though. In Kenosha County for example, he won by just 255 votes four years agoFour years ago, Trump won by carrying Pennsylvania and the upper Midwest. Democrats are hoping to flip each one of those states.Polls have shown Biden leading the Midwest, at least in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. But can u trust the polls this year? We asked University of Southern California’s Bob Shrum what’s different this year.“The state polls were changed drastically in the sense that most of them didn’t have a filter for education,” said Shrum. “And they had too many college educated whites and not enough non-educated whites.”As far as what’s driving voters, a CNN exit polls shows that 34% consider the economy the top issue, with racial inequality at 21%, followed by the coronavirus at 18%.Biden is watching the results come in from Delaware, while Trump is at the White House.Watch Joe St. George discuss what to be on the lookout for 3862

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- For Steve and Linda Trilling, it’s a trying time: balancing fears of the coronavirus and awaiting the chance for Steve to get a kidney transplant.“Everything got pushed back,” he said.Steve is fortunate, though – he found a match in a living donor. The problem is that the coronavirus caused most hospitals to temporarily stop transplant surgeries. Steve’s wife, Linda, who is a nurse, understands why.“I want him to be off a dialysis. I want him to be healthy again,” she said. “I also want it to be in a safe atmosphere.”The issue goes beyond just waiting for surgeries to resume.Right now, more than 112,000 people are awaiting an organ transplant in the U.S., according to the Health Resources and Services Administration. While most will get an organ from a living donor, approximately one-third, 33%, of all organs used in transplants come from donors who died in motor vehicle accidents. When widespread lockdowns kept people at home and off the road this past spring, those particular organ donations dropped, as did others.David Klassen is with the United Network for Organ Sharing, a nonprofit which manages the nation’s transplantation system through a contract with the federal government.“Starting in about mid-March, organ donation really plummeted fairly abruptly and there is an approximately 50% decrease in the number of organ donors over the course of about two weeks,” Klassen said.Safety measures instituted since COVID-19 emerged include testing organ donors. Klassen remains hopeful the transplant system will begin to return to normal.“Right now, actually, the system is increasing the numbers of transplants and really things are getting fairly close back toward what we saw prior to the pandemic,” he said. However, that may also depend on where you live. Record numbers of coronavirus cases are emerging in states across the South and West, which is straining hospital resources. Just this past week, one of the largest hospital systems in Miami placed some transplant surgeries on hold. For Steve and Linda Trilling, there’s hope his dialysis may become a thing of the past.“It's been a ride, you know, trying to get myself as healthy as I can for when everything happens,” he said.He has a potential transplant surgery date set for later this summer.“We are so blessed, so blessed, that we are, that we have a donor, that we have a goal,” Linda said. “So, that is, I think, my biggest thing, is having him off this lifeline.”“Just trying to get back to normal,” Steve added. It is a normalcy that’s been missing for them far longer than for most. WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court has rejected the Trump administration's bid to throw out a California immigrant-sanctuary law that limits local police cooperation with federal immigration authorities. The justices' order Monday leaves in place lower court rulings that upheld the law.The administration said the 2017 state immigrant-sanctuary measure conflicts with federal immigration law and makes it harder to deport people who are in the country illegally.California Attorney General, Xavier Becerra, released a statement that said in part: "We’re protecting Californians’ right to decide how we do public safety in our state. The Trump Administration does not have the authority to commandeer state resources. We’re heartened by today’s Supreme Court decision."The San Diego County Sheriff's Department sent ABC 10News the following statement:"The Supreme Court decision not to hear a legal challenge to California's sanctuary law does not change or impact the operations of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Our agency is already in full compliance with SB54.We do not enforce immigration laws. We prioritize community relationships and want all residents to feel safe when reporting crimes or coming forward as a witness to criminal acts."The Sheriff's Department also sent the following documents related to the law:https://www.sdsheriff.net/documents/sb54.pdf [sdsheriff.net]https://www.sdsheriff.net/documents/SDSD%20Values%20Act%20Information%20Page.pdf [sdsheriff.net] 1502

Wendy Williams fainted during a live taping of her talk show on Tuesday morning."The Wendy Williams Show" host was in the midst of the program's annual "How You Doin' Halloween Costume Contest" when she began to slur her words and sway back and forth, before falling to the floor.A stage hand immediately rushed to her side and the show went into a commercial break. 374
