Circadence CTO Bradley Hayes says cybersecurity attacks are on the rise during the holidays.“There’s a lot more online shopping that happens during the holidays, so there’s just a richer field of targets for this,” Chief Technical Officer Bradley Hayes said.The convenience of online shopping is attracting more and more people, but not everyone is familiar with the scams out there putting many at risk.“Just shy of 10 percent of individuals experienced some form of identity theft during the holiday season last year,” Hayes said.That number is expected to rise this year. Hayes says people are more likely to get their data stolen when using simple passwords, or the same password for multiple sites. He says you also need to be cautious of who you choose to store data with because there’s a possibility for any company to be breached.“So if you’re saying ‘save my credit card information', that is a risk that you’re taking for that convenience and it might not be worth it,” Hayes said.The internet has made it so people can fall victim to cybersecurity attacks in everyday life, but if more people understand the motivations and methods scammers are using, cybersecurity attacks might be less successful.So why not use a game to help educate? As a company that specializes in creating cybersecurity learning platforms, Creative Director Cassie Brubaker says Circadence is now rolling out InCyt. It’s a web-based battle strategy game where you experience the cyber world from both an offensive and defensive point of view.“I think the most unique aspect that InCyt really brings to the table is completely removing the intimidation barrier that comes with cybersecurity,” Brubaker said.Brubaker hopes the game will make the topic of cybersecurity easy for everyone to understand covering a wide range of topics.“We cover passwords, email security, bringing your own device into work, social networking, social engineering – what are the aspects of your social life that actually are putting you at risk of a cyber-attack?” Brubaker said.You learn how to find information about somebody like what it means to search social media, or what it means to make a phishing call. You’re kind of looking at the joy of the world and buying gifts and connecting with family. The US Department of Agriculture will continue providing food stamps to millions of Americans through February, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced Tuesday.The agency initially guaranteed funding for the program, which serves more than 38 million people, only until the end of January if the partial government shutdown isn't resolved sooner.The department says it is now using a provision allowing it to make obligated payments within 30 days of a government funding lapse, and is working with states to issue February's food stamp benefits -- which are expected to total .8 billion -- by January 20.The shutdown began after funding ran out December 21.This move does not draw down on the billion the agency has in reserve for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, as food stamps are formally known.Perdue told reporters he hopes the announcement will relieve the confusion and anxiety over benefits running out after this month.As for March, he said there is ample time for Congress to send President Donald Trump a spending bill that he can sign, noting that Trump has been clear he expects to see funding for border security.The agency will look at all available options for providing assistance if the shutdown has not been resolved in time for March payments, said Brandon Lipps, an acting deputy undersecretary at the agency. This is not the first time the department has issued benefits early, though previous instances have involved natural disasters, such as hurricanes.Other federal food assistance programs that support tens of millions of low-income Americans will also continue at least through February, said Lipps.The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, known as WIC, and the department's food distribution programs are funded through next month. This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing. While the astronauts were the stars of the show, the flight controllers back in Houston has a supporting role. The Apollo 11 Mission Control Center at NASA was a historical landmark, but it wasn’t being treated as so.Four years ago, NASA chose Sonya Yungeberg and her team at Ayuda Companies to lead the restoration of the Mission Control Center.“We have been working on this project pretty diligently, starting at the research phase for about three years now,” Yungeberg says.The control center hadn’t been used since the 90’s and needed a lot of work. A team of over 100 people began restoring 50 years of history. Month after month, they sifted through photos, film and artifacts.“As you can imagine, when people go and take pictures or video, they are not looking at the stuff on the desk or under the desk,” she says.To recreate the past, they needed to go on the hunt for items that were no longer made, including old ash trays, coffee mugs, headsets and so much more. They spent months on eBay to find old replicas of the items. One huge component of the room they didn’t have to search for were the original consoles used by the flight controllers, like Director Gene Kranz.“Mr. Kranz came in one day and had been doing interviews and he turns and says, ‘Where’s my foot pedal?’ And all of us stood there dumbfounded for a second like, ‘Oh, there is a foot pedal,’ and so we went to find foot pedals,” recalls Jennie Keys with Ayuda Companies.One of their greatest accomplishments were the renderings on the big screen. “These were not available. They were not original,” Yungeberg says. “We had to recreate them and the detail in them from looking at footage, again frame by frame.”Attention to detail was mission critical. From uncovering the numbers on the walls, scraping the gum off all the chairs, matching the carpet that doesn’t exist anymore and even having the same bouquet of roses that were in the room for every launch. For the items they couldn’t track down, the team used a 3D printer to make them. After three years, the project was complete.“The plan was to have it open by the anniversary of the Moon landing, and we barely made it,” Yungeberg says.The seal of approval came from the original flight controllers who were over the moon about seeing the massive fragment of space history restored.“Gene Krantz said he didn’t quite cry, but he got a rush of emotion and he really, really loved it,” Yungeberg says.NASA congratulated the accomplishment by saying, “This is what happens when American’s come together and work hard.” 2635

The US signed an asylum agreement in the Oval Office with Guatemala Friday, President Donald Trump said.The agreement commits Guatemala to extending asylum to migrants who seek it when they're moving through the country, according to a US official.The White House called it a "safe third agreement," but it is unclear if the agreement carries the same legal weight as a "safe third agreement" that would have the effect of preventing some migrants from applying for asylum in the US.Instead, Friday's agreement is a show of cooperation between the two countries, as they've done numerous times before, on the heels of the President's frustrations with the Guatemala for not moving pressing forward with a "safe-third" agreement.Earlier this month, the US appeared close to signing a safe-third country agreement with Guatemala. But Guatemala's Constitutional Court blocked the Guatemalan President from signing the agreement.Friday's agreement comes after Trump threatened Guatemala with tariffs and remittance fees earlier this week after it appeared that Guatemala would no longer agree to a safe third deal.Trump has been putting increasing pressure on Guatemala to come to an agreement, even going as far as saying he didn't believe the country's court ruling prevented the signing, and threatening "very severe" consequences."We're looking at something very severe with respect to Guatemala," Trump said Wednesday, noting that he already "cut all payments" to Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. 1514
