The Gulf Coast appears to have dodged a bullet after Marco — once a tropical storm — collapsed into a post-tropical cyclone as it neared the Louisiana coast. The storm is moving west-northwest at 17 MPH.The storm has already proven to be deadly. Haiti's Civil Protection Agency reports that 21 people were killed as the then tropical storm passed over the nation.A Twitter List by alexhider The NHC said Tuesday that the system could bring life-threatening storm on the Gulf Coast from as far west as San Luis Pass, Texas to as far east as Ocean Springs, Mississippi. The agency also warned that an inland region of the south-central United States could face flash floods and urban floods by the end of the week and into the weekend.A hurricane watch is currently in effect across the Gulf Coast, between Port Bolivar, Texas, to the west of Morgan City, Louisiana. The Justice Department is investigating Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke for possibly using his office for personal gain, following a referral from Interior's inspector general, two sources familiar with the investigation say.The full extent of the inquiry is unclear.Zinke has faced multiple ethics questions during his time at Interior, and the inspector general's office has multiple public inquiries into the secretary including the department's handling of a Connecticut casino project, whether the boundaries for Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument were redrawn to benefit a state lawmaker and conversations between Zinke and Halliburton Chairman David Lesar about a Montana land development project.Zinke said he has not been contacted by the Justice Department."They haven't talked to me. It will be the same thing as all the other investigations. I follow all rules, procedures, regulations and most importantly the law. This is another politically driven investigation that has no merit," Zinke told CNN.The Justice Department declined to comment. Interior's inspector general's office said it would not comment on Justice-related issues.President Donald Trump's Cabinet secretaries have faced scrutiny over their use of government resources, including former Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson.CNN has also learned Justice Department investigators began probing Scott Pruitt's questionable ethical conduct before he left as Environmental Protection Agency administrator, according to multiple people familiar with the matter. The inquiry was opened up after a referral from the EPA IG regarding whether Pruitt took any action to benefit an energy lobbyist he rented a condo from for below market rate. The probe appears to have stalled since Pruitt left office over the summer, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. 1922

The Pentagon has sent more than 300,000 pounds of Thanksgiving food to US military troops stationed overseas and at the US southern border, the Defense Logistics Agency announced Tuesday. The shipments, which include 9,738 whole turkeys and 67,860 pounds of shrimp, were sent to dining facilities throughout the Middle East, Europe, Africa as well as field kitchens in Texas and Arizona."Many of America's military men and women are away from home this Thanksgiving, making sacrifices to secure our freedom and to protect our southern border," Army Brig. Gen. Mark Simerly said. "The DLA Troop Support staff and I are excited about this amazing opportunity to provide them the very best Thanksgiving meal our country has to offer."Among the staggering amounts of food the DLA is shipping are 74,036 pounds of beef, 21,758 pounds of ham and 7,836 gallons of eggnog.Logistics planning to feed troops on Thanksgiving begins in May, according to Deputy Director of DLA Troop Support Rich Faso."The Troop Support Subsistence team is a dedicated group of employees who take pride in ensuring that deployed service members can experience an enjoyable holiday meal each Thanksgiving," he said.President Donald Trump hailed the troops at the southern border as "tough people" during a press gaggle Tuesday when asked about their work on Thanksgiving."Oh, don't worry about the Thanksgiving," he said. "These are tough people, they know what they're doing and they're great and they've done a great job.""You're so worried about the Thanksgiving holiday for them. They are so proud to be representing our country on the border," he continued. In October, Trump assigned nearly 6,000 troops to the US-Mexico border to deal with a migrant caravan heading toward the US through Mexico. Many in the group reportedly plan to follow legal procedures and seek asylum. 1866

The Padres 0 million signing of All-Star infielder Manny Machado is bringing new hope for both longtime fans and businesses trying to survive near Petco Park. 'We got a big name star," said lifelong Padres fan Luke Peet. "We got a household name that's on our ballpark."News of Machado's signing broke Tuesday morning. Fans like Ernesto Ramirez came to Petco Park to buy tickets for opening day shortly after the box office opened. "Friends are excited," he said. "It's all over social media so I think it's going to be a big deal for the Padres this season."If the excitement over the Padres translates into more fans coming into the Petco Park gates, it could also help businesses in the East Village stay afloat. That's been a challenge these last few years in the high-rent area. There are vacant restaurants just steps from the ballpark's entrance. The Padres finishing in last place two of the last three seasons has also led to a dropoff in foot traffic. The team averaged nearly 27,000 fans per game in 2018, good for 18th in Major League Baseball, according to ESPN. "As the year goes on and they struggle, you definitely see a slowdown in the crowd and energy," said Erik Tesmer, a co-owner and manager of Basic Pizza, which has been in the East Village for 14 years. The Machado signing was already paying off for Basic. Tesmer said the Padres ordered 17 pies for delivery Tuesday because there was no time to go out for lunch. "The energy of a big name person - we've had them in the past over the years and you can definitely tell the difference," Tesmer said. Whether the difference lasts beyonds April and May will all depend on how the Padres perform on the field. 1692

The National Weather Service is testing a new type of winter weather warning beginning in early January.Snow squall warnings will be tested in seven different areas across the country to warn people of white-out conditions from heavy, blowing snow.Snow squall warnings will be issued when short-lived winter storms are capable of causing visibility to drop under a quarter mile and subfreezing road temperatures allow snow to build up rapidly, causing dangerous, life-threatening travel. The National Weather Service currently issues watches and warnings for snow storms that are expected to last for a day or more, but these new warnings will get issued for short-lived storms that are expected to last for an hour or less. The new warnings would work similar to how severe thunderstorm warnings currently work. A polygon would be drawn across the region to where heavy, blowing snow was moving. These new warnings are going to be tested in the following cities and surrounding areas beginning this winter:? Detroit, MI 1025
