If you have done business with the city in the past three years, you may be due funds from to ,797. Any check uncashed after 6 months becomes unclaimed. “We want to refund every single dollar of unclaimed money,” said Fanela Espiritu, Disbursements Manager with the Department of Finance. “A simple search is all it takes to verify if you were issued a check that has gone unclaimed. There is no charge to search the data or to file a claim.” There are more than 2,100 accounts, city officials said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- A San Diego mother says working from home during the coronavirus pandemic cost her her job. She claims she was fired because her kids were making noises in the background of her teleconference calls."We're letting you go," Drisana Rios said. That was what her Human Resources representative told her in a call earlier this month. She said she thought the call was supposed to help resolve her workplace problems. Instead, by the end of the call, she says she was fired.Rios says it all began in mid-March when her bosses at an out-of-state insurance firm told her to work from home and telecommute via conference calls. This was in response to the state's COVID-19 lockdown orders.Rios says all parents working from home received an email from the company's regional boss that read, "thank you for the incredible effort you are putting forth through these difficult times." She says it also said that they would avoid layoffs during the pandemic.Like many parents, Rios was unable to find childcare for her four-year-old daughter and one-year-old son. Despite juggling parenting and working from home, Rios claims she was able to complete all her tasks. She adds that her clients never complained about her kids being in the background of her conference calls. The only complaints, she says, came from her male, direct superior."I said, 'Do you want me to lock my kids in the room? My one-year-old in the room? Do you want me to do that?' And… he responded and said, 'Figure it out.'" Rios said.She says she tried to arrange calls to be during her children's afternoon naptimes but claims her boss continued to ignore and demean her."He would purposely overlap schedules," Rios said.Rios then reached out to her HR department and asked how she should deal with the harassment she says she was experiencing-- a move she says that backfired a week later."She was shamed for having children, so she first elevated it to Human Resources," Daphne Delvaux, Sr. trial attorney at Gruenberg Law, said. "Human Resources took the side of the abusive manager, and terminated her for complaining."Rios has since filed a lawsuit against both her direct boss and the company for Gender discrimination, Retaliation, Gender harassment, Failure to prevent gender discrimination, Negligent supervision, Intentional infliction of emotional distress, and Wrongful termination in violation of public policy.In her complaint, Rios claims her HR representative told her that the company was "...experiencing a reduced revenue due to COVID-19 and they were laying [the] plaintiff off as a result of the pandemic." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – With Thanksgiving just days away, local health officials are seeing long lines at San Diego County COVID-19 test sites with many San Diegans hoping to get tested before the holiday.With the sudden surge of testing, some experts, such as UC San Diego Chief of Infectious Diseases Dr. Davey Smith, warn that getting a test is not enough to minimize the risk of spreading the coronavirus.“There’s a worrisome reason that people are planning to go visit their older relatives and they think they’re going to be 100 percent safe,” Smith said.Smith also said getting a test now could still give out a false negative result.“If I get tested now, it doesn't mean that I'm not infected, it just means that I'm not actively shedding the virus,” Smith told ABC 10News.On Monday, at San Diego International Airport, ABC 10News spoke to travelers who had the same thought.“I got tested about a week ago, just to make sure that everything is OK. And I know you can have it without having symptoms, so I did as much as I could to prepare before I came,” said Dana McLin.And along with getting a test, these travelers made sure they brought everything else they need to stay health while traveling this Thanksgiving holiday.Jan McLin said, “We are wearing our masks and we use hand sanitizers, sanitizing wipes, washing out hands constantly. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two separate clinical trials for phase three COVID-19 vaccines will resume in San Diego next week after AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson paused their students to find out why some participants became ill.“Pauses like this are absolutely common in large phase three trials so people should not be alarmed,” said Dr. Susan Little, the trial director for both studies that UC San Diego is set to take part in. “Studies will only resume when they are deemed safe for the study participants.”Little said not only are pauses like this common, but they also prove that the safety review process is working as it should.“Part of the reason we want people to understand that these are common is they will probably occur again, AstraZeneca with 30,000 people, Johnson & Johnson 60,000 people. It would be surprising if we don’t have another pause,” she explained.Little said once a trial is paused, it is immediately investigated by the independent Data Safety and Monitoring Board (DSMB). The board reviews the issues and determines if they are related to the trial.“In this case, the event and all other safety events were reviewed and deemed not related,” she said.The AstraZeneca study is scheduled to start on Monday, and UCSD will be using a mobile vaccine clinic that will travel from Chula Vista, La Mesa, and Imperial Beach.The Johnson & Johnson study is scheduled for Tuesday in National City, where trailers have been set up as a clinic at El Toyon Park.“We are signing people up right now to have scheduled visits next week,” said Little. “Safety will always remain the number one priority for study participants.”Those interested in participating in the study can sign up here.Participants must be 18 years or older and in generally good health. People with underlying health conditions like heart disease or lung disease may participate.“They just need to be relatively stable with their conditions,” said Little. 1957
