SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police have identified a man who was fatally shot in the Midway District this week, prompting a standoff with the suspect of the murder in North Park.San Diego Police received a report of the shooting just before 11 a.m. Sunday in the rear parking lot of the 24 Hour Fitness at 3675 Midway Drive. Police arrived to find 27-year-old Alexander Mazin of San Diego suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.Despite medial aid at the scene, Mazin died at the scene.RELATED: Fatal shooting leads to standoff between police, suspect in North ParkFollowing the shooting, police were led to the intersection of 30th Street and Upas St where an hours-long standoff began.Once SWAT teams entered the apartment, however, they did not find the suspect — identified as 41-year-old Ernesto Castallenos Martinez. The location on Tenth Ave. is their first storefront. Among customer favorites are the award-winning tacos and fresh ceviche.Portioned is another new business. Earlier this week, SDG&E said forecasted conditions that may affect power lines prompted them to consider pulling the plug on customers over public safety.Santa Ana winds swirled across the county Wednesday, with the height of the event possibly coming on Halloween, as winds turn offshore Tuesday night through Thursday, matching — if not eclipsing — wind speeds compared to last week's Santa Ana event. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect who shot a man in City Heights Wednesday afternoon.According to San Diego Police, the man was shot in the back at the intersection of Fairmont Avenue and Thorn Street near Clark Middle School and Manzanita Canyon.The shooter left the area with two other men, according to San Diego Police officer Billy Hernandez. The three were described as Asian men, one in a white shirt with the letters "SD" on it in red printing, the others in black shirts, Hernandez said.Police shut down traffic near the shooting scene and searched the area with a helicopter and ground crews. Officers found a gun possibly connected to the case in an alley. There was no sign of the shooter.Paramedics took the shooting victim to the hospital. The gunshot wound is not believed to be life-threatening. City News Service contributed to this report. 901
