The cashier offers a face mask that we have on hand for those who don't have masks. He thinks about it and gets upset," said manager Myra Espinoza.In the video, the man waves his hand, apparently waving off the mask offer, before he begins walking away. Moments later, there is a loud sound."He heard something hit the window, and the window falling and shattering down," said Espinoza.The video revealed the cause: the man took his skateboard and thrust into one of the restaurant's windows."It hurts. That's like my house. It's so disrespectful. I wouldn't go to his house and break his window," said Espinoza.Espinoza says it's not the first time someone has gotten upset over the mask policy."We have sliding windows. One gentleman grabbed the sliding windows so hard, it bounced back," said Espinoza.Still, those types of incidents are rare. Thursday's vandalism is the first time things have turned destructive."It's uncalled for and unnecessary. (KGTV) — A new initiative between California and Mexico officials could pave the way for solving the persistent issue of sewage flowing from Tijuana to the U.S.The sewage comes as runoff from the Tijuana River or as flow from the Punta Bandera treatment plant, leading to beach closures in Imperial Beach and Coronado. On Friday, officials from California and Mexico met in Imperial Beach to launch the California-Mexico Strategic Dialogue. The inaugural issue is to find solutions to stop the sewage from flowing into the U.S."While other leaders may use the border as an opportunity to distract and divide, we want to use this as an opportunity to convene and advance," said State Assemblyman Todd Gloria, a Democrat. Officials are reporting progress. However, a Johns Hopkins trauma surgeon doesn't think that's always the case.“If it were me, and I know a lot about trauma, drive me to the trauma center as fast as you can,” said Dr. Elliott Haut, associate professor of surgery and emergency medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and senior author of a new study that evaluates emergency transport for shooting and stabbing victims.Haut and colleagues examined data from trauma centers within the 100 most populous U.S. metro areas and compared ambulance versus private vehicle transportation and the relationship between transport-mode and in-hospital mortality. He was not surprised by what he saw.“Patients who are injured with penetrating trauma — so stab wounds and gunshot wounds, in urban settings, so these are in the City — have improved outcomes and improved mortality if they're brought to the trauma center by private vehicle compared to emergency medical services, EMS,” Haut said.The keyword is trauma center; not all hospitals are equipped to handle walk-in patients with these kinds of injuries. And they are injuries that require immediate surgery. It sometimes really is better to get you here, let us start doing our more definitive thing that we can do only in the emergency department,” said Kelen, director of the emergency department.He agrees time is of the essence, but also cautions that this is one study.“If you get multiple people being dropped off at one of the smaller hospitals, they may not have the staff to do everything that a place like ours can do so let the system work,” Kelen said.The current standard of care in Maryland is to wait for EMS to arrive.
