The Girl Scouts of the USA have appointed their first-ever Black CEO.On Monday, Judith Batty took over as Interim CEO after Sylvia Acevedo, who was with the Girl Scouts for four years, stepped down on Aug. 10. Acevedo's last day with the organization was Saturday."When I was young, the Girl Scouts instilled in me the courage, confidence, and character that have guided me through my life and career. The family of late singer Tom Petty is upset with President Donald Trump for using the hit song "I Won’t Back Down.”The song was played at the president’s re-election rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, over the weekend.That in turn prompted the late star's estate to issue a cease and desist notice to Trump's campaign on Saturday.Adria, Annakim, Dana and Jane Petty wrote in a letter posted to Twitter that Trump was not authorized to use the song to “further a campaign that leaves too many Americans and common sense behind.”The estate said, "both the late Tom Petty and his family firmly stand against racism and discrimination of any kind."They added that "Tom Petty would never want a song of his used for a campaign of hate. He liked to bring people together."The letter also said, “We believe in America and we believe in democracy. The fatal New York City helicopter crash that killed everyone on board except the pilot may have been caused by a passenger's piece of luggage, the pilot told investigators.The pilot said one of the passenger's bags may have inadvertently hit the emergency fuel shutoff button, leading to the crash that killed five passengers, a senior law enforcement official said.The National Transportation Safety Board will try to determine the cause of the Sunday evening crash, the Federal Aviation Administration said. But flu is atypically low.”However, they caution that flu activity may increase in the coming months. Flu season typically peaks at the beginning of the year, depending on the region.The CDC’s map showing state-by-state flu activity shows the majority of the country with “minimal” rates of flu activity, with Oklahoma at a low “moderate” level.
