The S&P 500 also hit a closing high milestone of its own Thursday, a day after its first move above 3,000.Steep losses in drugmakers and real estate companies were offset by gains for banks and technology companies.Nvidia climbed 3.9% and Goldman Sachs rose 2.6%.Pharmaceutical makers dropped after the White House scrapped a plan to overhaul a system of rebates those companies pay to insurers and distributors.Bond yields spiked following weak demand at an auction for 30-year Treasurys.The S&P 500 rose 6 points, or 0.2%, to 2,999.The Dow rose 227 points, or 0.8%, to 27,088. NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — The man in charge of the FBI in Indianapolis said a school shooting at Noblesville Middle School West earlier this year could have been prevented.According to FBI Special Agent in Charge Grant Mendenhall, most school shootings are preventable, including the shooting at Noblesville. The difficulty is people reporting the concerns."They might not know exactly what the shooter is going to do, but in the vast majority of cases, somebody in retrospect had recognized some type of behavioral change that could have been significant and again, not a very high percentage of people reported it to law enforcement," Mendenhall said.The findings are all part of a new study released by the FBI that studied active shooter incidents over 13 years. The report states, in part:  822

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – A man in Massachusetts is taking extreme measures to ensure his Trump campaign sign isn’t tampered with.John Oliveria of New Bedford says his sign started disappearing from his yard and after going through six, the Navy veteran was fed up.Oliveria, a member of the New Bedford School Committee, has now put electric wire around the sign in his front yard and he tells WJAR it has certainly sent a message to thieves.After two weeks with the fence, the Republican says the sign has stood its ground.Oliveria says Americans have to be able to respect each other, despite political differences. The new book, “Disloyal: The True Story of the Former Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump,” offers a blow-by-blow account of Trump’s alleged role in a hush money scandal that once overshadowed his presidency. Cohen writes that of all the crises he confronted working for Trump, none proved as vexing as the porn actress Stormy Daniels and her claims of an extramarital affair with Trump. NEW YORK – Two infants were found dead in the Bronx on Monday, according to New York City police.The baby boys, each believed to be less than a month old, were found behind a building on College Avenue, near and East 172nd Street in the Claremont section of the borough, around 2:40 p.m. ET, police said.One infant may have been stabbed and one may have been thrown from a roof, according to police.
