KENOSHA, Wis. — A man was air-flighted to a local hospital after he was shot by a Kenosha police officer Sunday evening, police say.Kenosha police said the man was shot near a home at 40th and 28th streets in Kenosha just after 5 p.m. Officers were called to a 'domestic incident' at the location.A family member confirmed to Scripps station WTMJ in Milwaukee that the man was Jacob Blake, 29.Police did not say what led up to the shooting but said that officers offered immediate aid.Kenosha police said Blake is in serious condition. KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A man trying to rekindle a relationship with a woman he met on Tinder was robbed by the woman and her friends after he posted a picture of him holding a large amount of cash on social media.An Overland Park, Kansas police spokesman said the man and woman met each other on Tinder in 2017 but decided to remain just friends.Recently, the man posted a picture on Snapchat holding a large amount of cash and boasting about the post. The woman he met on Tinder saw the post and asked if she could come over.The man agreed, but when the woman came over on May 23, she was joined by two other men who attacked the victim, cutting his head and fracturing his nose.Overland Park Police say three people were arrested.Johnson County Prosecutors have charged Lauren Butler, 18, Martez Taylor, 22, and Kain O’Keefe, 18, with one count each of aggravated robbery. JAMUL, Calif., (KGTV) — Nearly 200 volunteers helped to beautify an injured Navy Veteran’s new home in Jamul. “I stepped on one of the IEDs, and that’s when I got blown up,” Petty Officer Christopher Andrieu told 10News.He joined the Navy in 2007, and for his entire service, he has worked as an EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) officer. But in 2013, when he and SEAL Team 5 were in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, he sustained a life-changing injury. Since then, even little things have become arduous tasks for the double amputee. “To get the dishes down, I jump up on the counter if I’m not on my legs,” he chuckled. Andrieu and his family now live in a small house in Claremont. But thanks to non-profit, Homes for Our Troops, he will soon be moving up the hill to much larger home in Jamul. “It was my top choices for a lot, so I was really happy we got this,” Andrieu said. The lot has a beautiful view of the small town and has a spacious half acre front yard. The home is not finished yet but has appliances and shelves built slightly lower to accommodate Andrieu. It has been two years since Andrieu started the application process with Homes for Our Troops. One of the last big projects was the landscaping. That’s where the volunteers came in. “It’s really cool to support who we want to be,” volunteer, Alex Kulik said. Kulik is a senior at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, hoping to become an EOD expert. He and nine other Midshipmen doing summer training in San Diego volunteered to help the non-profit with the project. “I don’t think any of us has experienced what he has, and just to see his optimism, I think it should be able to push anyone,” Kulik said. “Military or non-military, to get through whatever their challenge may be, and come out with a smile in the end.“Andrieu’s heroism and positivity drove the hundreds of volunteers to create a luxurious yard in just 55 minutes."It's a life-changing moment for a deserving veteran," Community Outreach Coordinator for Homes for Our Troops, Mell Barbosa, said. “All the people who came out, I'd say most of them, I didn’t know beforehand,” Andrieu said. “I can’t even say it… it’s just awesome.”Homes for our Troops is sprinting to the finish line. JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. — Latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows the suicide rate among young people between the ages of 10 and 17 increased 70 percent from 2006 to 2016.“In all my years of community mental health, I’ve never once been afraid to open my email in the morning,” Tim DeWeese said. “Today I’m afraid to open my email to see that someone else has committed suicide or that there’s been another homicide or there’s been another shooting."For more than 20 years, DeWeese has been with Johnson County Mental Health in Kansas, and has seen vast changes from the time he’s started.“It seems like we can’t go a week or a couple days without seeing something, so that’s the hardest part,” DeWeese said.CDC data also showed while black youth killed themselves less than white youth, the increase rate was higher, 77 percent within that decade.In Kansas alone, the suicide rate is higher than the national average, with Johnson County being number one in the state.“More than one Kansan dies everyday from suicide,” DeWeese said.DeWeese said there could be a number of contributing factors.“Lack of availability of mental health resources,” DeWeese said. “Our country, our state, has not necessarily put an emphasis on funding mental health treatment.”He said the stigma surrounding mental health could also be playing a role.“When we see these mass shootings occur or anything bad happen, immediately that person says that person has a mental illness,” DeWeese said.He said this does nothing but further stigmatize a mental illness. “And it really promotes people not to seek treatment,” DeWeese said.John County Mental Health recently started providing free gun locks at the center.“If you can create a barrier such as a gun lock, then — if actually in those two minutes it would take to unlock the gun or to find the key — then a person may rethink that decision,” DeWeese said.He said he encourages anyone who may know someone who is struggling not be afraid to ask them how they’re feeling, if they feel like harming themselves, and to listen.For more on suicide prevention, click here.— 2161
