"We were investigating drug sales on the street," said Retired Detroit Deputy Police Chief James Younger whose partner was shot in 1972 by a man who was never arrested for the crime. The shooting left Detroit Police Officer Donald Kimbrough paralyzed from the waist down and he died December 7, 2017, from medical complications that resulted from the decades old shooting. "With the knowledge that he was shot and never fully recovered, the manner is homicide," said Dr. Bernardino Pacris from the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Officer who conducted an autopsy on Kimbrough and recovered an oxidized, deformed bullet from Kimbrough's back. Younger said doctors could not remove the bullet without killing Kimbrough because of where it was located. Sergeant Todd Eby of Detroit's Homicide Task Force has been assigned to solving Officer Kimbrough's murder. It happened August 25, 1972, in an alley near a methadone clinic that was located at John R and Belmont.Kimbrough, Younger and another officer, Donald Hughes, were investigating drug activity in the area when they heard gunshots. Kimbrough and Hughes took off running to the area where witnesses said men were shooting while Younger began to navigate their vehicle around traffic to get to the location. Kimbrough and Hughes spotted one man holding a long gun and ordered him to place the weapon on the ground. Moments later, another man who was sitting in the driver's seat of a green Lincoln Continental that was parked nearby, rolled his window down and opened fire on Kimbrough and Hughes. The two officers returned fire, but Kimbrough had been shot. The man who had the long gun picked it back up off the ground and raced to hop into the green Lincoln Continental. Both men escaped.The vehicle they fled in is described as a green 1968 Lincoln Continental with a black vinyl top. It's unclear if the car was a two-door or four-door. A partial license plate may be GA- 2--.The shooter was described as a white man 25 - 30-years-old with shoulder-length black hair, a thick black mustache and long bushy sideburns. Police did recover the shooter's .32 caliber Colt semi-automatic pocket pistol. A man found it in his yard.  "Don was a good policeman. A good person and very energetic person. We spent a lot of time together not only on duty, but also off duty," said Younger who retired as a Detroit Police Chief and now teaches Criminal Justice at Wayne County Community College. If he's alive, Kimbrough's shooter could be in his seventies. But Younger, Eby, and family and friends of Donald Kimbrough believe it's not too late for someone to help solve the case by identifying a suspect. "Where's man's humanity towards man," said Younger. With just five Democratic Party hopefuls for president left, two candidates emerged as clear frontrunners on a crucial night dubbed as “Super Tuesday.” Joe Biden, ex-President Barack Obama’s two-term vice president, asserted himself as a real contender to take the Democratic nomination. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who attained frontrunner status after winning races in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, is now locked into a battle with Biden. Meanwhile, the campaigns of Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg are in question. While Warren’s campaign presses on by adding several campaign events later in the week, Warren did not finish in the Top 2 in any of the 14 states up for grabs on Tuesday, including her home state of Massachusetts. Meanwhile, representatives for Bloomberg said that the candidate is returning to NYC to reassess his campaign. Bloomberg’s only victory on Tuesday came from the tiny US territory of American Samoa, which only had six delegates up for grabs. Also grabbing a delegate from the Pacific island was Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who was born on the island. The delegate was her first of the campaign. Bloomberg campaign manager Kevin Sheekey said that in the campaign's opinion, there is still time for Bloomberg to make up ground. This comes after Bloomberg sat out the first four nominating races. IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating after a body was found along Imperial Beach Sunday morning. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, joggers told authorities they found a man in his 20s unresponsive in the water on the 700 block of Seacoast Drive. Paramedics arrived and pronounced the man dead. The department says they suspect drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the death. The identity of the man hasn't been released at this time. 499

(KGTV) - Upset parents are scrambling after the owner of a beloved preschool and daycare says she will be forced to shut down in a few weeks. ?18-month-old Merrick lights up when he goes to his daycare. More than a year ago, Brie Way enrolled her son at Intelli Children, both a daycare and preschool."It's not just a place. It's a home for kids," said Way.The home for more than 70 kids could soon be closing its doors."I feel sad for the children, parents and staff," said Carol Wilson, owner and director of Intelli Chidren.Ceiling stains in many of the classrooms mark the problem. Wilson says the leaky roof she noticed when she moved in eight years ago turned into big problem with this winter's rains, when several floods for them to cause of several occasions. According to Wilson, walls had to be cut out in most of the classrooms. Wilson says after the landlord declined the necessary repairs, she paid for the repairs so she could stay open. She then stopped paying rent early this year."The business was not viable anymore," said Wilson.She says negotiations stalled when her landlord declined a permanent fix and told her she had to close the school in early August. For Way, a single mom, panic is setting in. Affordable, quality child care is hard to find and she fears she'll be in the same boat she was a year ago."I called from Escondido to Oceanside, and found myself on 30 waiting lists ... It needs to stay open. There aren't a lot of good schools like this in the area. It would devastate the community I believe," said Wilson. The landlord declined comment, contending 'eight months of back rent' are still owed him. "Flippy," the burger-flipping robot introduced recently at a Pasadena, Calif., burger restaurant, has been taken offline after one day on the job.The robot was taken off the line, in fast-food terms, at CaliBurger, BBC News reported, after it was unable to keep up with demand. Miso Robotics introduced the robot as a potential replacement to human cooks.So the burger-flipping robot has been switched off until coders can update it.Interest and news about Flippy's "hiring" created an increased demand at the restaurant, leading to more orders than it could handle.CaliBurger is reportedly working with staff to make sure the kitchen is working around Flippy as efficiently as possible as well. The restaurant hopes to eventually deploy Flippys in more of its locations.Miso Robotics says Flippy can detect when raw burger patties are placed on the grill and monitors each one. A cloud-based software from the company keeps track of the cook time and alerts workers when it's time to dress the burger patty.Flippy will be able to cook up to 2,000 burgers a day, the company touts.
