SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego tradition will return this holiday season, though not to the same stage we're used to seeing.The Old Globe's production of "Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" won't be taking the theater's stage this year, instead, coming to audiences on the radio and online. The free, audio-only production can be heard on 89.5 FM and can also be streamed on the KPBS website or mobile app, and on smart speakers on Nov. 26, Dec. 5, and Dec. 20 at 12 p.m.; and Dec. 24 at 6 p.m.Of course, fans of the show can expect their favorite songs, including "Santa for a Day," "You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," and "Welcome, Christmas (Fah Who Doraze)."And though live showings at the Old Globe are canceled until further notice due to the pandemic, another piece of holiday cheer will return outside of the theater. The 15th annual Globe Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place virtually on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. and can be viewed on the Globe's website or social media channels. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego researcher is looking into whether social media affects the teenage brain the same way as marijuana.Dr. Kara Bagot, a child psychiatrist and assistant professor at the University of California San Diego, believes her findings could change how medical professionals view adolescents' usage of various social media. “Kids keep using social media even in the face of negative consequences,” said Dr. Bagot, “and that’s what we see with drug usage as well.” Bagot’s team will scan 60 teens’ brains as they look at images from social media and then pictures of marijuana. “No one will be smoking for this study,” added Bagot, “we’re not that progressive.” They are still compiling results and recruiting more teenagers for the study, but anticipate having it complete by summer. The study is a part of the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) initiative, a nationwide effort tracking more than 12,000 children across a decade. 969

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman who was hit by a car in Normal Heights says she’s been left stranded for six months after her wheelchair was damaged in the crash. Now, replacing it is a challenge. Pet photographer Tamandra Michaels’ love for the camera came to a pause after she was hit from behind while crossing the street.“It sent me flying," Michaels said. The wreck damaged her custom wheelchair, which cost more than ,000.“It slightly bent the frame to where one of the front wheels don’t quite hit the ground.” Michaels says Geico, the insurance company of the woman who hit her, won’t replace the wheelchair after giving them proof the chair must be replaced.“Months went by, they said they did some research and that the chair should only cost between ,500 to ,100," said Michaels. Michaels says without being able to work, she can’t afford to pay the difference.“It's incredibly frustrating. They’re treating it like its a car or maybe even a bike. This is like my legs; this is my life. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A World War II veteran is being honored not only for his service to our country but to the San Diego community.With the help of former students, current students, and staff at Hilltop High School in Chula Vista, the library was dedicated to World War II veteran Tom Rice. The lifelong Coronado resident was an Army paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division on D-Day. He was the first to jump out of his C-47 after it crossed the English Channel.RELATED: Retired Chula Vista teacher grateful for war hero's inspirationRice taught U.S. government in the Sweetwater Union High School District for more than 30 years, mostly at Hilltop High.The surprise was unveiled to Rice on Thursday. "Everyone has given me their grace, and I have nothing to return but just my presence, and that was it. The two women say Rice didn't talk about the war when he was a teacher; it wasn't until years later they learned of his bravery. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Uber driver helped a Lyft driver after a crash on Interstate 8 in Mission Valley Monday.The Uber driver told 10News he was exiting eastbound I-8 at Mission Gorge Rd. at 1:45 a.m. when he saw an SUV on its side, blocking the road.The man turned on his hazard lights and used his Uber car to block the road while he ran to help, he said.The Lyft driver was trapped and screaming for help, according to the man.The Uber driver said he kicked the windshield until he formed a hole the Lyft driver could climb through.Paramedics took the Lyft driver to the hospital with cuts and bruises.CHP officers are investigating the cause of the crash.The Lyft driver was not arrested but told the CHP his 'mind wasn't working', according to Officer Jim Bettencourt. 806
