After weeks of wrangling, the MLB Players’ Association told MLB that players will be ready to report on July 1 for a second Spring Training.Teams will conduct a 60-game season in home ballparks, MLB said on Tuesday. Most teams will conduct their preseason training in their home cities instead of utilizing Spring Training facilities. The length of the season has been greatly reduced from 162 games after MLB suspended the season in March. The regular season is expected to begin on July 23 or 24. Teams will play the majority of their games versus in-division opponents, with the remaining games being played against interleague teams from the same geographic division. "Major League Baseball is thrilled to announce that the 2020 season is on the horizon," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said. "We have provided the Players Association with a schedule to play 60 games and are excited to provide our great fans with Baseball again soon.”The two sides have struggled to reach an agreement in recent weeks as the two sides disagreed on the number of games to be played, and a salary structure. Players and owners previously agreed to a framework in March when the season was suspended stipulating players would get a full prorated salary if games would be held in front of fans. 1285

All week, the climbing Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots have been awakening the frivolous dreamers inside of us. Come on, who could resist entertaining some "what ifs" when the money at stake is over a billion dollars? To recap, no one's won the big Powerball or Mega Millions payout for a long time, so now the jackpots are sinfully high. The Powerball pot is 0 million, and the top Mega Millions prize is a cool Dr. Evil-approved billion.Granted, those numbers get pared down a LOT once cash value calculations and good old Uncle Sam get a hold of the winnings. But still, it's an obscene amount of money. 624

ALPINE, Calif. (CNS) - A 61-year-old Alpine man is the first person in San Diego County to test positive for West Nile virus this year, local health officials reported Wednesday. The man, whose name was withheld, was hospitalized and has recovered. The California Department of Public Health confirmed his WNV diagnosis on Tuesday. The man said he had traveled to Yuma, Arizona where it is believed he contracted the virus, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency.Since Jan. 1, there have been two West Nile virus positive detections in mosquitoes during routine trapping by the county vector control program, one in the Del Mar Area and the other in the Black Mountain Ranch area. There were only three human cases of West Nile virus in San Diego County in 2019 and two in 2018.The state has reported 11 people infected statewide so far in 2020, including a child in neighboring Orange County who was diagnosed sometime last week and was hospitalized but is expected to recover.West Nile virus is mainly a bird disease but can be transmitted to people by certain species of mosquitoes that first feed on an infected bird or animal and then a bite a person.Around 80% of people who become infected with West Nile virus never know it and never suffer any symptoms. About one in five people who are infected develop a fever and other symptoms such as headache, nausea, fatigue, skin rash or swollen glands. About 1 out of 150 infected people could become extremely ill and die.People older than 50 and who have underlying medical conditions are at heightened risk.Public health and environmental health officials recommend following the county's "prevent, protect, report" guidelines, which are designed to help residents protect themselves from mosquitoes that transit West Nile virus as well as invasive Aedes mosquitoes that can transmit tropical diseases, including Zika, dengue and chikungunya.Dump out or remove any item inside or outside homes that can hold water, such as plant saucers, rain gutters, buckets, garbage cans, toys, old tires and wheelbarrows. Mosquito fish, available for free by contacting the county's vector control program, may be used to control mosquito breeding in backyard water sources such as unused swimming pools, ponds, fountains and horse troughs.Wear long sleeves and pants or use repellent when outdoors. Use insect repellent that contains DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus or IR3535. Make sure screens on windows and doors are in good condition and secured to keep insects out. Finally, report increased mosquito activity or neglected, green swimming pools and other mosquito-breeding sources -- as well as dead birds -- to the vector control program by calling 858-694-2888 or emailing vector@sdcounty.ca.gov.Mosquito season in Southern California generally spans May to October. 2856

Alejandro Rodriguez and Edward Perea are the owners of Summit Tacos. At the restaurant, you can expect authentic Mexican street food.“Let them see what real Mexican food is, and not just what they think Mexican food is,” Perea said.Their recipes are tested and approved by well-traveled customers.“I used to go to Mexico City every now and then in my younger years and just missed the food,” a customer said.“One of the things that has been one of our really good sellers has been our Pambazo,” Rodriguez said. The business started with humble beginnings as a food truck named Adelita, after a group of strong and independent women during the Mexican Revolution.“We built it ourselves,” Rodriguez said. “Nothing fancy, but it’s ours.”Then they found a place to call home. However, similar to many other restaurants across the country, they faced financial difficulties when the pandemic struck.“We had to shut down our dining room and patio and we relied on the community to order takeout and delivery from us,” Rodriguez said. It’s the community that ended up keeping the restaurant alive.“Everyone that lives here, they saw the struggles, and started coming in and purchasing gift cards," Perea said. "That was the most gift cards we sold was in the first couple weeks.”According to the latest Economic Impact Report from Yelp, 60% of restaurants that were open in March have permanently closed. Mexican restaurants are among the types of restaurants hardest hit.Jennifer Rodriguez is the President and CEO of the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is an organization dedicated to supporting the development of the growth and development of Latino-owned businesses in the nation. She says many Mexican restaurants are family businesses owned by immigrants.“They tend to not have ready information about relief programs that are available," Rodriguez said. "When they are available, language access or the lack of relationship with banking institutions have demonstrated obstacles for these businesses to reach the resources available and necessary.”Rodriguez says many cities have created relief programs for small businesses – in fact, Summit Tacos benefited from a grant for businesses owned by people of color. She recommends business owners get in contact with lawyers, certified accountants, and banking institutions who are aware of these relief programs. But when it comes down to it, the community is what will help these restaurants thrive.“The food is great, the people are hospital, they’re very family oriented," Rodriguez said. "So whether you’re Latino or not, going and experiencing Latino hospitality is just really a fun way to do something that would be great for your economy and your community.”“It’s important, not so much for people to support us because we’re people of color, but support us because we’re part of the community, we’re neighbors and this is home for us,” Alejandro Rodriguez said. 2978
