An Arizona man is facing a second-degree murder charge after shooting his girlfriend in the face at his Mesa apartment on Sunday morning.According to police, around 8:30 a.m. officers responded to a report of an accidental shooting near Country Club Drive and Broadway Road.Responding officers found the woman with a gunshot wound to the eye. She was transported to the hospital and was pronounced dead, police said. During interviews with police, 22-year-old Martin Larney confirmed that his girlfriend had spent the previous night at the apartment, which he shares with his brother.Larney told police that as the victim was sitting on the floor changing her clothes, he tossed his handgun onto a couch in the room, causing it to go off and strike her.Police said Larney changed his story twice, initially reporting that he was trying to clear a round when the gun discharged, then finally admitting he was waving the gun at the victim because he "was upset at what she was wearing."According to police documents, Larney also admitted that he thought about shooting the victim as the gun went off, and had "thought about shooting the victim in the past."Larney has been booked on one count of second-degree murder.   1260

An alleged sex-trafficking victim was able to escape her captors by jumping out of an 18-wheeler Wednesday night.The Cisco Police Department says around 9 p.m., officers responded to a call of a female who had been seriously injured near the Flying J/Denny's on IH-20.Police say the female injured herself after jumping from an 18-wheeler. She told officers she had been kidnapped in El Paso.It is believed that the perpetrators were going to use the female in sex trafficking operations.The Cisco Fire Department, Cisco EMS and DPS Troopers were also on-scene. The female was transported to a medical facility for treatment of her injuries.The 18-wheeler is described as a green truck tractor with a white stripe and pulling a white box-type trailer. It is occupied by three men.Another female is reportedly still in the truck and maybe in grave danger.A statewide broadcast was issued last night by Cisco PD in an attempt to locate the truck. As of publication, there has been no contact with the truck.Anyone with information is asked to contact local law enforcement at 254-629-1728. An 87-year-old grandmother using a knife to cut dandelions in the woods near her rural Georgia home last week was taken down by a police Taser and arrested, according to a police report.Martha Al-Bishara was arrested for criminal trespass and obstruction of a police officer, according to the report. Chatsworth Police said Al-Bishara did not drop a steak knife despite several commands and a demonstration by officers. At one point, she walked toward officers with the knife, police said.Police had gone to a wooded area near a Boys and Girls Club last Friday after an employee called 911 to report that an elderly woman was walking around with a knife in the community, around 80 miles north of Atlanta."There's a lady walking on the bike trails, she has a knife and she won't leave," the caller told a dispatcher. "She told me she doesn't speak English, and she's walking up the trail with a knife towards me.""It looks like she's walking around looking for something, vegetation to cut down or something. She has a bag too," the caller said.The Boys and Girls Club employee told the dispatcher that the woman did not seem to be a threat. "But she came at you with a knife, though, right?" the dispatcher asked.
