CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV) -- One Marine was killed and six others injured in a rollover during a training exercise at Camp Pendleton Thursday morning. The rollover happened around 9 a.m. Thursday and involved a light armored vehicle. The six Marines injured in the crash were taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered serious. The Marines are from the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, according to officials. The cause of the rollover is under investigation. CARLSBAD, Calif., (KGTV) -- This afternoon, friends and family said their final good-byes to Justin Meek, the Coronado native who died in the Borderline Bar shooting on November 8, 2018. On the same day, students at Sage Creek High School read letters of appreciation to their loved ones. One student wrote his message to his older sister who survived the shooting in Thousand Oaks. Teenagers are not known to pour out their feelings. But for Sage Creek High School students, it is a requirement for their English class. As part of a senior assignment called "Project Gratitude," students expressed their thanks to those who helped shape their lives. They were to write a letter, call the recipient, and reflect. “I know I don’t show it often, but I’m so proud to have you as my mom,” Izabella Razmi said. CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Crews were able to stop the forward rate of spread after a fast-moving brush fire sparked in Campo Sunday afternoon. According to the agency, the fire started around 1:30 p.m. in the area of I-8 and Old Highway 80. Cal Fire originally said the blaze had a rapid rate of spread with structures threatened. Crews later said the forward rate of spread had been stopped at 1.5 acres. (KGTV) - Vice President Mike Pence toured the US-Mexico border in Southern California Monday, answering questions about the migrant caravan waiting to apply for asylum.Nearly 200 Border Patrol agents joined the Vice President at the Imperial station in Calexico.Pence said the migrant caravan’s attempt to seek asylum was a direct result of weak immigration laws and a “porous border.”He called on Congress to close what he described as immigration loopholes. Pence also asked for an end to the current catch-and-release policy, and a crackdown on sanctuary cities.“All of this cries out for action and thanks to the leadership to President Donald Trump, we are protecting the American people along our southern border and we are building a wall,” said Pence.Pence toured the construction site of the border fence renovation and received an update on the progress.“This new wall is roughly two or three times taller than the wall that was here today.
