SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Multiple former students of San Diego's Christian Youth Theater, known as CYT, are coming forward with stories of sexual assault, abuse and misconduct.On the phone Tuesday, the president of CYT confirmed that one of her own close family members claims that he was even abused when he was in CYT many years ago.On its Facebook page, the El Cajon-based theater group has acknowledged recent accusations of sex abuse from former students.Part of its statement reads, “We are deeply saddened to learn about statements that have recently been made on social media involving former CYT students, and we want you to know that we take these allegations very seriously…We have been working tirelessly on these issues with the authorities, outside consultants, staff, and the Board of Directors since they were brought to our attention…"San Diego attorney Jessica Pride said Tuesday that she's representing a former student who claims she was sexually abused starting in 2006. “The first time she was 13 and it continued until she was 15-years-old,” said Pride.The after-school theater arts training program was founded 40 years ago and is for students ranging from 4-years-old to 18-years-old. On its website, CYT writes that its grown to be the largest youth theater program in the nation with branches across the country, training thousands of students a year.Tuesday, CYT President Janie Russell Cox would not confirm the number of alleged victims or whether the accusations of abuse were between just students or students and teachers, but said claims have come from alumni- not current students.Cox confirmed that her close family member publicly posted on social media his own account of abuse from many years ago. She said she's heartbroken and wants to be transparent and will provide an on-camera interview in the upcoming days.Pride said dozens of other former students are now contacting the firm. “The phone has been ringing off the hook with survivors who are calling and want to tell their story and want to make sure that CYT changes,” she added.San Diego Police told ABC10 News Tuesday that its Sex Crimes Unit is conducting an investigation in which there is an association with CYT.An advocate for several of the alleged victims is asking for any other possible victims to come forward. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Pacific Beach mother Sandy Algra says her number one job is keeping her child safe, something she wasn’t able to do a few months ago.Algra and her 3-year-old son were at Liberty Station Park when he was scratched by a dirty needle, sending him to the emergency room. Algra says he underwent an infectious disease consultation and will require HIV and Hepatitis C tests every six months.“Right now I’m trying to channel and redirect the anger that I feel about what happened to him, that I wasn’t able to keep him safe," said Algra.She's created a petition to designate San Diego’s playgrounds for children only; adults are only allowed if they’re accompanied by a child.Similar ordinances already exist in New York and Florida, people who violate them can face fines. "I think that most people can use common sense and understand that an adult is not meant to be living under a slide, or sitting on a swing doing drugs or otherwise, that's not what these playgrounds are designed for," said Algra. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday afternoon, two brothers were sentenced in connection to the deadly freeway shooting of a Navy sailor who stopped to be a good Samaritan.Edson Acuna and Brandon Acuna learned their sentences following the 2018 shooting death of Navy sailor Curtis Adams. Edson Acuna was given a term of life without the possibility of parole plus 25 years to life plus 27 years and four months. He was ordered to pay ,000 in restitution and pay for associated fines. “He's going to be in prison for the rest of his life until he takes his last breath and I think that will give him time to pay these from prison wages,” the judge told the courtroom.Edson Acuna was convicted by jury of first degree murder while Brandon Acuna pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. On Monday, Brandon Acuna was sentenced to 13 years in prison.Prosecutors argued that they burglarized a car outside of a Mount Hope home which led to a shootout with the homeowner. They tried to get away but a blown-out tire caused them to stall on the freeway. Adams stopped to help but Edson Acuna shot him after thinking that he was the homeowner from the shootout earlier in the night.Harvey Liberato and Susana Galvan were also in the brothers’ car and have entered plea agreements.The judge concluded the hearing by telling the courtroom that he hopes both men reflect in the years to come on the magnitude of the loss that their actions caused. 1441

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One driver was arrested after video of a road rage incident in Oceanside made its way into CHP's hands.Two drivers, one in a gray Ford Explorer and the other in a gray BMW convertible, were involved in the February 15 incident on eastbound State Route 78 in Oceanside, according to California Highway Patrol officers.Officers responded to a report of a non-injury, hit-and-run collision just before 4:30 p.m. near the College Blvd. exit. Officers arrived and found the Explorer on its side on the center median while the BMW reportedly fled.RELATED: Road Rage Crisis: Violence on the RiseWhile investigating, officers were made aware of a video recorded by a witness.The video showed the driver of the BMW, identified as 33-year-old Kevin McCall, left his vehicle to berate the driver of the Explorer, identified as 23-year-old Andrew Branch, who was still inside his vehicle, according to CHP.Officers said McCall spit at Branch before returning to his BMW. Branch is then seen driving into the center median and accelerating into the BMW, narrowly missing McCall.Sideswiping the BMW caused the Explorer to overturn onto its side. McCall then drove away, officers said."It was pretty shocking. It was pretty shocking," said CHP Officer Mark Latulippe. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Parents say they're disappointed after witnessing what they say was disrespect of the flag and national anthem at a high school basketball game. One parent captured video of the incident at Lincoln High School. They have a student at St. Augustine and say it was the second time they witnessed Lincoln High players sitting down during the anthem. The parent described the players as talking and joking around during it.A grandfather at the game, who is a Vietnam veteran, says he too was offended. He wrote a letter to Lincoln's principal and wants to sit down with him to discuss the issue. The veteran believes the players were disrespectful and says their actions were not in line with the school's mission statement.10News spoke with the school's basketball coach by phone who says he doesn't believe students meant to be disrespectful. He also respects their right to make their own decisions about their actions during the national anthem.  The San Diego Unified School District did not provide 10News comment or a statement on the matter. 1102
