Sharp healthcare administrators are getting ready to distribute thousands of Pfizer vaccines to their front line employees.“They will sign up and be scheduled,” said VP of Sharp Pharmacy Services, Suzanne Shea. “We don’t want people lining up at the door. We want to make sure we’re maintaining social distancing.”Shea says their freezers will store the doses at the necessary -80 degrees Celsius. The first inclination is to want them to wear a mask so they're not coughing onto you. But, their oxygen saturations are so low that you almost just feel bad for asking them to do so.”He sees the long-term effects of the virus can have on the body. He says some people can’t even get out of bed. Others have lasting symptoms resembling a recent stroke.“I've seen a lot of people that won’t return to normal life,” said Montemayor. “It takes a village to see these folks and the nurses are overwhelmed. It's all hands on deck.”Montemayor says the long-term effects of coronavirus outweigh any potential side effects from getting a vaccine.Sharp Healthcare says even people who have already had COVID-19 should be vaccinated. 1812

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego FBI and prosecutors Monday announced a million reward for a wanted terrorist.According to the agency, Jehad Serwan Mostafa, 37, is a U.S citizen. During a Monday news conference, the FBI called Mostafa the “highest ranking American fighting overseas.” The FBI says Mostafa grew up in San Diego and, at some point, moved to Somalia and became a member of the al-Shabaab terrorist organization. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- There is a new effort to bring more customers to restaurants struggling in downtown San Diego due to the coronavirus pandemic.Beginning at 12 p.m. Tuesday, 700 discounted gift cards will go on sale for 40 downtown restaurants, stores, and coffee shops. Patrons can pay for the card but will get a value in what will be called the "Downtown Loyalty" program.The extra per card is being added by the City Center Business District and local philanthropic groups.Sarah Brothers with the Downtown San Diego Partnership said this will help make up some of the restaurants lost revenue. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Blood Bank will test all blood donations for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies from now through the end of July.The blood bank says it will use those test results to help identify people who can donate convalescent plasma. Donors who test positive for antibodies will be able to donate COVID-19 convalescent plasma the next time they donate.The plasma can then be used to treat coronavirus patients.The test will be able to detect if a person's immune system has developed COVID-19 antibodies, whether or not the person showed symptoms. It will not detect if a person has an active infection or recent exposure to someone who is infected.To donate, donors must be at least 17-years-old, weigh 114 pounds, and be in overall good health. The blood bank says the test is authorized by the Food and Drug Administration for emergency use. All reactive and nonreactive results will be reported to the California Department of Public Health.
