Amid the NHL, NBA, MLB, college basketball, XFL, MLS, PGA Tour and NASCAR suspending operations due to the spread of coronavirus, one pro sports league is pushing forward: The Professional Bowlers Association. This weekend is the tour's PBA World Championship, which is being held in Las Vegas. Although the competition will go on this weekend, it is doing so under a heavily-modified schedule. The event was originally slated to air next Wednesday. Instead, the finals will air live Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1. The championship will also be played without spectator, except for family and tour officials. "The last-minute changes have been made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of players, family members and tournament officials. International travel restrictions that may impact a number of World Series competitors also played a role in PBA’s decisions," the PBA said. This weekend's championship is one of five majors the PBA has annually. The bowlers participating in the championship will be Jason Belmonte, EJ Tackett, Anthony Simonsen, Francois Lavoie and Chris Via. 1109

A mother of two is turning Goodwill into glamour. Jenny Carlson says she was tired of spending hundreds of dollars on her kids’ clothes.“Kids clothing is so expensive,” said Carlson. “They grow out of it so quickly or they stain it in a second, and you’ve spent on a shirt, and now it’s ruined.”Carlson decided to take matters into her own hands. Now, she’s not only saving money, but earning it too. “I sell handmade or repurposed or vintage children’s clothing and accessories,” Carlson said. Carlson makes shopping trips to Goodwill, looking for donated items to reuse as fabric. "There's so much clothing that gets put into the landfill each year," said Carlson. Those unique patterns and colors will get turned into new and unique children's outfits. “I’ve been sewing since I was 8 years old,” said Carlson. “My grandmother sewed, and my mother sewed.”Carlson mix matches fabrics to make items like dresses, vests, bows and bonnets. At first, Carlson made clothes for her children to save money, but over time, her hobby morphed into a real business called Sweet Basil Avenue. She sells on Etsy to customers all over the world. “It's made from used or vintage clothing," said Carlson. “They range from to .” It’s all depending on size and how much fabric she used. Not all of us are crafty like Carlson, but she says it's not about sewing or making money. It's about doing something that makes you happy. “Everybody needs a hobby of some kind that brings them joy,” said Carlson. 1507

A now-deceased University of Michigan doctor is being investigated for complaints of sexual abuse. The university is asking any former patients of Robert E. Anderson who believe they were subjected to sexual misconduct during a medical exam to contact the U-M Compliance Hotline.Anderson was a former director of University Health Service and a former athletic team physician who worked at the university from 1968 until his retirement in 2003. He died in 2008.An investigation began in July 2018 when a former student athlete wrote to Athletic Director Warde Manual to detail abuse during medical exams by Anderson in the early 1970s, the university says.During the investigation, the university says it identified dozens of people who described incidents of sexual misconduct by Anderson. Now, the university is asking anyone with additional information to come forward.“The allegations that were reported are disturbing and very serious,” said President Mark Schlissel in a news release. “We promptly began a police investigation and cooperated fully with the prosecutor’s office. The former patients describe sexual misconduct and unnecessary medical exams, the university says. The exams reportedly took place in the 1970s, with at least one incident reported in the 1990s.“As part of our commitment to understanding what happened and inform any changes we might need to make, we now are taking the next step to reach out to determine who else might be affected or have additional information to share. Every person in our community should expect to feel safe and supported.”The Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office determine that no criminal charges would be authorized. To submit a report, call the Compliance Hotline at 866-990-0111."I want to urge any former student athlete with information they are willing to share confidentially to come forward," Manuel said. "The health and safety of our student athletes is our highest priority."This article was written by 1982

Americans traveling abroad are racing to try and get home, up against canceled or fully booked flights."This was our first international trip together, and we were going to spend St. Patrick's Day in Dublin," said Bree Steffen, who lives in San Diego. But for Bree Steffen and Sean Harris, the dream began to unravel while waiting for their connecting flight. "We were in Zürich when we found out about the travel restriction and when the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. So, we were like, 'Oh my God. What do we do?'" said Steffen. The couple tried to book tickets home, but they would've cost upwards of ,000, so Steffen and Harris stuck to the original plan. "We still had a really good time, but it was a lot different than we had pictured," said Steffen. They felt especially safe in the countryside, outnumbered by four-legged friends. But the mood changed in Dublin, where nearly all museums, restaurants, and pubs were closed. "It was tough, it was tough going into a restaurant and knowing that the busiest day for the year for them is now the slowest day of the year," said Harris. "We were supposed to come back on Friday, but everything kept changing hourly, and we were so scared we'd get stuck there, and we can't get stuck there, we had to get back," said Steffen. For days the couple couldn't find a flight; they were either booked or canceled. This week, they ultimately found one through United. At a layover in Newark, New Jersey, passengers were taken off the plane in groups of ten for medical screenings."And then they gave us this card, which has more information on COVID-19 and how to self-quarantine at home," said Steffen. But now at home, they're faced with another hurdle. "Terrifying. I got a realization last night that it's going to be very difficult to sustain a small business while having to be closed," said Harris. While in Ireland, Harris decided to close his business, Serpentine Cider, to stop the spread of coronavirus.Harris was also planning to open a tasting room next month--a decision that will likely be put on hold."We're potentially going to go out of business, and we've been doing really well. Going out of business on something that is not your fault it, it's sad," said Harris. But they're trying to stay hopeful and look forward to the day when they can once again visit Ireland. 2368
