SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — University of San Diego officials say they are investigating white supremacy social media accounts that claim to have ties to the university.In a joint statement from several USD leadership, the school says in the last 24 hours it has been made aware of Instagram accounts that claim to have ties to the school and are used to "post white supremacy propaganda."USD said it is investigating the source of the social media accounts and are making formal requests to Instagram to remove them, with some already taken down.The school slammed the accounts as "abhorrent and hateful" and condemned the posts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Video posted to Facebook Wednesday showing a violent encounter between a Pacific Beach worker and homeless man has already gained hundreds of shares and comments.You can see someone come out of B-Mo's Sandwich Shop on Garnet Avenue and push a table into a shirtless man's head, then begin throwing his belongings into the street. 10News reached out to the owner of B-Mo's but were told he wasn't available for an interview Thursday.But Pacific Beach locals who saw the video told 10News the video shows San Diego's homelessness issue has reached a boiling point locally."If you look at the video you can tell it's at the point of escalation," said Mike Bremer, who owns a nearby tattoo shop.Bremer says while he might not agree with how things played out, he understands how it could happen. "I don't condone using that kind of violence I'm here to support because something needs to be done," Bremer said.Bremer and other locals said they deal with issues related to the homeless on a near daily basis and it can make doing business difficult. Thursday, two San Diego Police officers arrived at B-Mo's, but wouldn't comment. A spokesperson for SDPD said officers were initially called out when the confrontation happened but the homeless man wasn't cooperative and the other man didn't want any further action taken. Police said Thursday in light of the video evidence they've now opened up a criminal investigation into the incident. It's unclear if anyone will be charged. 1502

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With the announcement that San Diego Unified School District is beginning their school year online, some parents are looking at other options.Patrick Batten has four children. He said his incoming high school senior did well with distance learning in the Poway Unified School District, but it was a struggle for his 12-year-old.“It was not a platform that she adapted to,” Batten said.Batten and his wife both work full-time. Right now, Poway Unified is offering choices. In a letter to parents, the reopening plans include two options: a “return to on campus learning (with some online options) or participate in [the] Virtual Learning Academy.” Batten knows those options could change as the beginning of the school year gets closer. If some type of on-campus learning is off the table, they may look outside the district.“We’re exploring the option of private school and how do we financially afford that,” Batten said. He said he would also look to a district that does offer in-person instruction.“I’m strongly hoping that they stick with their original plan and they give the option for teachers to be able to teach in person if they’re comfortable with it, as well as if a teacher isn’t, that they have the option to teach online and give the same opportunity for parents,” Batten said.John Anderson’s two children are in the San Diego Unified School District. Monday, the school district announced it is “committed to the beginning of the school year online.”“I think the online experience in the spring was okay, but to do it for potentially a whole semester or a whole year, I think is going to be a pretty big struggle for the kids,” Anderson said. Like Batten, he has had discussions with his wife about options outside the district if some type of in-person instruction is not available.Some homeschool options have seen increased interest since the pandemic began. Sage Oak Charter School is an independent studies program that operates in several counties including San Diego. Student services coordinator Chelsey Anema said the number of inquiries to the school has increased “extreme numbers.”“Our normal family that enrolls is a family who, they just are passionate about homeschooling. Now, I think a lot of families are enrolling who are wanting out of the traditional brick and mortar school because they don’t want what they had in the spring,” Anema said.South Bay mom Elisa Hilliard homeschools her three daughters and shares her experience through her social media channels as “San Diego Homeschool Mom.” Hilliard has advice for parents looking to homeschool their own kids.“Things are going to be different and they’re not always going to be easy. You have to be ready for change,” she said. “It [also] really depends what your schedule is like, how flexible your hours are, can you build a schedule with your family.”The San Diego Unified School District will give parents another update on August 10th. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Windmill Farms Community Market in Del Cerro is asking for the public's help locating their stolen trailer.The family-owned grocery store has been serving San Diego since 2003 with a mission to provide healthy, organic foods at affordable prices. Surveillance video from the early morning hours on Sunday captures a white SUV with black rims circling the market. At around 4:30 a.m. the SUV hauls off the trailer. “Just unbelievable," said Michael Villegas, produce manager and buyer. “That trailer was a big part of our business; everything we had for our events was in that trailer."Villegas is also in charge of the store's community events, like bringing food to the Lake Murray 4th of July Fireworks and bringing fresh produce to schools. “Schools depend on us to do the events, if we have to start over it’s going to be tough," said Villegas.The trailer held all their tents, tarps, tables, and BBQ's.Villegas estimates the loss at around ,000. “I just hope we can get it back, you know, that would be awesome if we could get it back, if anybody seen anything give us a call," said Villegas. A spokesperson for San Diego Police says a report was filed and a detective should get the case in a few days. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A splash of color brings life back to Bay Park Elementary. Over the weekend, parents and volunteers joined together to give the school a facelift. The beautification project now has kids excited to come to school. “They were just blown away,” says Emily Auer. “Their face just lit up. They actually touched the walls.”Bay Park Elementary is approaching it’s the 80th anniversary. The school’s beautification team brought together almost 80 volunteers. The project started Friday night until late Sunday afternoon. Volunteers painted the walls and wooden backpack holders. Parents tell 10News one family donated a bunch of small desks with chairs that now sit in the halls. Behr gave the paint for the project. “Such a wonderful group of kids, so positive,” says parent Erica Krystek. “We really wanted that positivity reflected in the hallways.”The Bay Park Elementary Beautification Team plans to do more upgrades in the future. They hope to paint and add new carpet to the school’s auditorium. 1022
