SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County public health officials have reported 3,132 new COVID-19 infections -- the 27th consecutive day with more than 1,000 cases.On Sunday, there were no new virus-related deaths reported.Sunday was the 19th day with more than 2,000 new cases.Another 50 people also were hospitalized, according to Sunday's data, and another seven patients were sent to intensive care units.The county's cumulative cases increased to 145,779 and the death toll remained at 1,402.Ten new community outbreaks were confirmed on Saturday. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The City of San Diego began a virtual open house Monday to solicit public input for two potential uses for a vacant lot in the Encanto community.The city is asking the public to consider two redevelopment proposals for the Valencia Business Park located at Stevens Way and Imperial Avenue.Located in the federally designated San Diego Promise Zone, the Valencia Business Park has been vacant for more than 20 years. According to the city, the community-focused redevelopment is moving forward and expected to create at least 72 full-time jobs."For years, the vision for Southeastern San Diego has included activating the Imperial Avenue Corridor and development of the Valencia Business Park property," said Councilwoman Monica Montgomery Steppe. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister announced his office is accepting penalty cancellation requests for homeowners and small business owners who were impacted by COVID-19 and missed the Dec. 10 property tax deadline.Property taxes unpaid after Dec. 10 incurred a 10% penalty. To qualify for penalty cancellation, the property must either be residential and occupied by the homeowner or owned and operated by a taxpayer that qualifies as a small business."COVID-19 has affected many in San Diego -- especially our small businesses, so we want to do what we can to help those who did not have the funds to pay their taxes on time," McAllister said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Seven influenza-related deaths were confirmed last week in San Diego County, bringing the number of fatalities so far this flu season to 57, compared to 30 at this time last year, the Health and Human Services Agency reported Wednesday.The ages of the patients ranged from 60 to 89, and all had underlying medical conditions, according to the HHSA.The total number of cases dropped for the third week in a row. The county logged 1,548 cases last week, compared to 1,689 the week before."While influenza cases have continued to decline, flu activity is still widespread in the region," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. "People should continue getting vaccinated and taking other preventive measures to avoid getting sick."The seasonal total of influenza cases is now 15,097.
