SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- 2018 was a big year for SeaWorld and new rides opening in San Diego seem to be paying off. In a new report, the company announced its first increase in attendance since 2015. A newly-released report by SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc. found that attendance increased to 22.6 million guests in 2018, up more than eight percent. According to Statista, 2018 marked the first time SeaWorld saw an increase in attendance since 2015. The report comes as SeaWorld San Diego gets ready to open another big attraction this spring. Construction on a new roller coaster, called Tidal Twister, is set to be finished in May. The coaster will feature a figure-8, horizontal design and dueling trains. Riders will be able to sit both backward and forward. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A dog walk in South Park turned frantic as a couple tries to fend off a bee attack that didn't end when they got inside their home.Grape Street, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Patricia Young, her husband, and two dogs were near Marlton drive, just about done with their walk, when one of the dogs started sniffing a bush."All of a sudden I felt a really sharp stabbing in my arm. Then I heard buzzing near my eye and swatted at it. That’s when my husband started to get stung," said Young.Young says she didn’t see a swarm but heard a constant, loud buzzing."My husband is swatting and his glasses fall of. I pick them up, and he’s getting attacked ... Take my mask off and swing it around my back, and I get stung on my back," said Young.Young says her husband picked up one of the dogs, and they scrambled to get home, about 2 blocks away."We’re kind of yelping and squealing and swatting, and then get home, and it's that sense of, 'We’re safe,'" said Young,Not so fast. Inside the home, she found a bee on one of the dogs, and then one in the bathroom."When I came out to the kitchen, the bees were congregating in the light in the kitchen," said Young.In the end, they killed about eight bees. Their nine-year-old Maltese mix had to be treated by a veterinarian for a possible sting. Both Young and her husband stung several times"It's a freaky, terrible thing to be chased by bees into your home," said Young.Jeff Lutz, the owner of Bee Best Bee Removal, says a two-block chase is unusual, adding that "hot temperature can make bees more active," as they bring in water to keep the hive cool.It’s unclear if the bees were Africanized bees, which would require a DNA test to determine.Lutz says bee removal calls are down significantly this year but attributes that to the impact of COVID-19. 1812

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A Clairemont man is recovering after he said he was accidentally shot by his next-door neighbor.Walter Lam said he was at his dining room table inside his home on Sunday when he heard a gunshot.“As soon as I heard that shot, I felt something was really cold on the inside of my arm. And I was bleeding; I knew immediately I was shot and I called 911,” Lam said.Once at the hospital, Lam underwent surgery to remove the bullet.“If it had moved towards my heart, I would have been dead,” Lam told ABC 10News.San Diego police said the bullet was fired by his neighbor who lives right next door. The neighbor said he was cleaning his gun and did not even know it was loaded.Investigators took the neighbor’s gun into evidence, and while he was not arrested, investigators said the neighbor could face a misdemeanor gun-related charge.Lam is recovering and in a little bit of paint, but he said he’s ready to return to work as head of his nonprofit organization Alliance for African Assistance.Lam said this is a reminder that life is too short.“Life can end any time. Just a little more to the right and I would be dead. Right now, people would be planning my funeral,” Lam said.ABC 10News learned the case has been forwarded to the San Diego City Attorney's Office. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Bankers Hill man returned home to a knife-wielding man in his kitchen, leading to a frantic dash out of the neighborhood."I heard my neighbor pull up. I'm a light sleeper. Within a couple minutes, I heard sirens coming from every direction," said Tom.Tom, who asked us not to identify him, says two Sundays ago before 1 a.m., surveillance cameras showed his neighbor parking in front of his home. In the video, the homeowner is seen walking to his front door. An outdoor light turns off, and suddenly, another light comes on. Tom says that's when his neighbor encountered a stranger in his kitchen."He came home and found the guy standing at his back door with a bottle of alcohol from his cabinet, and a knife from his butcher block. He backed off a bit and called police," said Tom.The intruder ran out the back. He is then seen making his way to the front of the home, across the street and right to Tom's front door."He tries to get into my house. It's locked so he takes off down the street," said Tom. Tom says a man fitting the same description has been spotted stealing bikes and casing homes in the area. As for the recent break-in, Tom says it's not clear how the man got in, but video of the motion-activated lights suggest he was in the home for nearly an hour."It's more than a violation. You start to lose your sense of security, and that's the worst part of it," said Tom.The intruder is described as a white male, between 20 and 30 years old, 5’6"-5’8", 155 lbs, with tattoos on both forearms. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The University of San Diego has the best university in the state for business, management and marketing degrees according to rankings released today by college decision-making website College Factual.USD's business, management and marketing department topped UC Berkeley, University of Southern California, University of San Francisco and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo among California schools. College Factual deemed USD's School of Business the eighth-best in the country as well."These rankings highlight the outstanding learning environment including small classes, cutting-edge curriculum and opportunities for international study that position our undergraduates for success in the business world," said Stephen Conroy, the School of Business' associate dean for undergraduate business programs.College Factual ranked the schools based on students' post-graduation earnings, the schools' accreditation and the number of students at each school majoring in a program related to business, management or marketing.
