RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - California Highway Patrol officers believe drugs or alcohol are likely factors in a crash that injured three people Tuesday near State Route 67 west of Ramona. A truck and two cars collided on Dye Road at Lansdown Lane about 4:30 p.m., the CHP reported. The white Mercedes had been traveling west on Dye Road and speeding when it crossed into oncoming traffic, witnesses told the CHP.The Mercedes clipped a blue Subaru and hit a Toyota Tacoma pickup head-on, officers said.The crash blocked the roadway and sent debris across lanes. Video from Sky10 showed the front end of the Mercedes was missing, and the roof of the truck was sheared off.Cal Fire crews, possibly from the Ramona station two-tenths of a mile away, were seen rescuing a person from a 77-year-old man from the seat of the truck. The men in the Mercedes and the truck suffered major injuries, the CHP confirmed. The woman in the Subaru had minor injuries. Helicopters landed in a nearby field to take patients to the hospital. The CHP announced a closure of the area at 5:16 p.m. Neighbors who live in the area say Dye Road is a dangerous road because no one drives the posted 55 mph speed limit. 1196

The Humane Society acquired the Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona on September 1st, and the very next day, the 12 week old mountain lion pup was their very first patient."We got a call from California Fish and Wildlife," says Project Wildlife Director Andy Blue. "That a firefighter had found a mountain lion cub in distress up near Idyllwild."The female cub was found semi-conscious, extremely emaciated, and dehydrated."When she first arrived here in Ramona, she appeared to be in pretty bad shape, and I wasn't sure she was going to survive."That's when the Project Wildlife team stepped in and provided the cub life saving treatment."We immediately gave her critical care supplies, got a diet syringe fed to her, and did everything we needed to do to turn it around."And a little over a month later, with the great care from Project Wildlife, Blue says the cub is expected to make a full recovery. "Now she is completely stable and will most likely be going to another facility in Arizona." You might think that once animals have rehabbed, they would be let back out into the wild.. Well that's not always the case.""Because she's had so much human contact, we really can't release her back into the wild. Most of the predators are kept in the back of the 13 acre property to keep humans from imprinting on them, affecting their ability to survive after release.Staff take extreme care and 'secretly' feed their animals.From January 1to July 1, the center cared for 588 animals. As of Friday, they're currently caring for more than 100, and at capacity.Some of their animals documented in pictures provided to 10News, like an orphaned badger, the first badger the center has had in 20 years. They also have a Great-Horned Owl which was hit by a car."Our patients are one of three things, they're unfortunately orphaned, or ill or injured," director Matt Anderson said.They've seen 35 percent more patients compared to the same time last year, meaning they're caring for 154 more animals."It's what we call baby season, everybody expects it, it's a hectic time, all hands to the deck, the staff are wonderful so we're pushing forward and already have some success stories," Anderson said.The Center is funded through donations and The Humane Society of the US, those dollars critical now more than ever. Another factor behind the boom, higher rain levels meant more food all the way up the food chain."Lots more plant life, and lots more to eat for the prey items that our predators eat," he said that's also what brings predators into our neighborhoods."They're really really good at finding their own food, and so it's best to let them alone in their habitat and enjoy them from a distance," Anderson said.Reminding us how important it is to leave the animals alone so they can survive, go back into that sensitive ecosystem and keep it in balance. 1863
