XINING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Ten people died while 34 others were injured after a passenger bus plunged over a bridge in a mountainous region in northwest China's Qinghai province on Saturday, local police said.The accident occurred in Dulan county, Mongolian-Tibetan-Kazak Autonomous Prefecture of Haixi, at 4: 59 a.m. Saturday, police said. At least two children were among the dead.The injured are being treated in a major hospital in the nearby Golmud city, police and hospital sources said. Three of them remain in critical conditions.An initial probe said the driver's misjudgment was to blame.

ANKARA, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Ankara on Thursday night for a three-day official visit to Turkey.Turkey is the last leg of Wen's four-nation tour, which has taken him to Greece, Belgium and Italy. SHANGHAI, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's intellectual property rights (IPR) authorities Saturday vowed to play a larger role in the global cause of IPR protection while being more responsible to innovators and the public.The State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) Director Tian Lipu made the pledge at a press conference held to recognize the 25th anniversary of Sino-EU cooperation on IPR protection.Tian said that China and the EU, as two major economies with close trade relations, should further co-operate to create a better environment to encourage and protect innovation in the business world.At the event, European Patent Office (EPO) President Benoit Battistelli told Xinhua he was optimistic about the future of IPR protection in China, given the rapid progress being made in the country.Battistelli said relations between the EPO and the SIPO would "continue to be decisive for the successful future development of the patent system on a global level."Commemorations of the anniversary, held at the ongoing Shanghai World Expo, also included a demonstration of a real-world IPR enforcement case in a moot court setting.The EPO started cooperating with China in 1985. The two sides are currently implementing the EU-China IPR2 project utilizing a 16 million Euros budget that runs over four years to 2011.Both the EPO and the SIPO are among the world's five largest patent offices, together with the Japan Patent Office, the Korean IP Office, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.China has also grown into one of the most important non-EU countries filing patent applications to the EPO, with the number of patents submitted increasing from 163 in 2000 to 1,621 in 2009.

CAIRO, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese and Egyptian industry officials vowed closer bilateral economic ties on Sunday with the signing of an industrial cooperation agreement.Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Rachid Mohamed Rachid met with Chinese Minister of Industry and Information Technology Li Yizhong. Both talked about the expansion and improvement of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.Rachid told reporters that he hoped the new agreement would pave the way for more cooperation in different industry sectors including manufacturing of cars components, textiles, petrochemicals, electronics and technology."This agreement includes the process of sharing technology and increasing investment in the industrial sector and training of workers as well as helping Egyptian companies promote their products in the Chinese markets," said the Egyptian minister.The agreement also included the formation of an Egyptian- Chinese task force that takes the responsibility of sharing information and experiments in the industrial sectors and encouraging Egyptian and Chinese firms to establish joint ventures in different areas of cooperation, according to Rachid.Rachid said that Egypt wanted to benefit from the successful Chinese experience in the industrial sector.Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif also met with the Chinese minister. The prime minister said Egypt shows great interest in boosting cooperation with China.The bilateral trade between Egypt and China increased from 3 billion U.S. dollars in 2006 to 6.24 billion dollars in 2008, according to Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Wu Chunhua.By the end of last year, Chinese investment in Egypt exceeded 500 million U.S. dollars.
