OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - The Rugby team at MiraCosta College has qualified for the National Championships in Pittsburgh.The Spartans Rugby program is in its first full competitive season, and due to the lack of Junior College teams in Southern California, they play a schedule that consists of NCAA 4-year schools.The MiraCosta Rugby team is made up of around 40 players, many of whom have backgrounds in football and wrestling.The team doesn't lack for experience, as a few players have been playing for over 10 years, like Ian Crilly, who says he's pleased with the team's progression."I've been playing for about 12 years now, so it was a little rough with these first year players. Trying to get them up to speed but we got there," said Crilly.The Spartans begin play in the National Championships on April 21, and win or lose, they feel all there success this season has put the school on the map for athletics. They hope their success will get more kids, both men and women, to come out for the sport.  1028

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — Firefighters battled a fire at a North County residence Saturday.The 3-alarm blaze was reported in the 1400 block of Division Street just after 2:30 p.m., according to an Oceanside Fire Battalion Chief. It took fire crews an hour to get the upper hand in the firefight, due to the wind and lack of resources, according to fire officials.Three people were injured. Two people were transported to UCSD hospital for burn injuries. One man was burned on the arm, according to his father, Alfredo Muruato. Muruato said his son and his daughter-in-law were asleep when the fire started and were awoken by the dog.Another resident, Carla Vega, described the harrowing ordeal. She said she was in the shower when she heard a loud boom, "I peeked out my head and smelled fire so I got out of the shower... I just saw a bunch of smoke everybody running." She said everyone was panicked. When she returned to remove her things, she said everyone was going to have to find another place to live. "Everything is replaceable, it is materialistic, my life is not materialistic, that’s what matters, I got myself out, my dog," Vega said.The Red Cross is assisting more than 30 people were displaced in the fire.The cause of the fire is still under investigation. ORLANDO, Fla. -- Officials say a body was found in an Orlando pond Thursday after reports of a possible gator attack on Wednesday.Officials say the body is a female in her late teens, early twenties, possibly Hispanic or black, there was no damage to the body or signs of trauma due to gator bites. The body was recovered at approximately 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning about 15 to 20 yards from where a resident reported seeing someone flailing in the water on Wednesday. The lake is located near Fabian Avenue and Reagan Avenue in Orlando  570

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A man was taken into custody in Oceanside on Monday morning after police say he broke into a short-term rental and sexually assaulted a woman. The sexual assault happened around 4 a.m. on the 800 block of South Pacific Street. According to police, Kwahmell Archer entered the home through an unlocked front door. Oceanside Police said there were 20 people inside the three-story rental when the suspect walked into a closet, got undressed and entered a sleeping woman’s bedroom. The 49-year-old woman woke up and screamed when the man grabbed her, waking up the rest of the house. Police said the suspect then ran back into the closet and was pinned inside by other people inside the house. Police arrived and took the man into custody. 773
