ATLANTA — Georgia’s top elections official says his office is investigating potential election law violations by groups working to register voters ahead of January's Senate runoffs. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger named four groups his office is specifically investigating: America Votes, Vote Forward, The New Georgia Project and Operation New Voter Registration Georgia. He says some groups are allegedly encouraging people outside the state to register to vote in January's Senate run-off election, according to The Hill. “We have opened an investigation into a group called America Votes, who is sending absentee ballot applications to people at addresses where they have not lived since 1994,” Raffensperger said Monday in announcing the investigations. BALTIMORE — Baltimore City Fire officials are investigating a Wednesday morning explosion at the BGE office building downtown.In total, 23 people were rescued from various parts of the building.Fire officials say 21 of them have been taken to the hospital. At least nine are in serious or critical condition.According to a statement, BGE said the 21 contractors were treated at area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.BGE said two individuals rescued were window washers who became trapped high atop a scaffold on the side of the building. Authorities asked for the public's help Wednesday in identifying a woman who allegedly broke into an Irvine home and went into a resident's bedroom before being chased out by a resident.Surveillance video captured the woman ringing the doorbell of a residence on Jan. 18 at 8:34 p.m., Irvine, California police said.The homeowner — who did not want her name made public — said when nobody came to the door, the intruder made her way into the house via a side door and then into the upstairs bedroom where the homeowner's college-age daughter was sleeping.The daughter woke up and asked the intruder who she was, the family said. The trespasser managed to flee after the daughter chased her out of the house, according to the mother.After reviewing surveillance footage, the family said they discovered that the intruder had also come to the home in December. It's unclear whether she was able to enter the house at that time.The family said they did not know the woman, who was described by police as Asian with brown hair, brown eyes and of average height.
