But in more complicated elections where there are a bunch of candidates and it’s a tight race you run more of a risk of anomalies occurring,” said Aaron Hamlin with The Center for Election Science.What does this voting method mean for Maine, and the U.S. as a whole this election?“Ranked choice is going to come into play in the United States Senate race here in Maine,” Brewer said.“It’s not inconceivable that the Maine Senate race ends up deciding control of the U.S. Senate, and we're not going to know the outcome of the Maine Senate rate on election night. I can't imagine we will. VISTA (CNS) - A homeless man accused of fatally stabbing a fellow transient outside an Escondido fast-food restaurant was ordered today to stand trial on a murder charge.John Christopher Burns, 48, is accused of stabbing Jose De Jesus Martinez in the neck shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 27, outside the Burger King on West Valley Parkway.According to preliminary hearing testimony, witnesses said Burns made statements indicating he believed the 32-year-old victim was trying to steal his bicycle, which had been left outside the restaurant.Martinez was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Escondido Police Department.Burns was arrested by San Diego County sheriff's deputies at the Pala Casino one day after Martinez's death.He's due back in court Sept. 2 for a Superior Court arraignment. 844

(KGTV) - The Vista Unified School District's school board on Tuesday passed new rules for its middle and high schools seeing cases of COVID-19In a special meeting, the school board discussed a staffing issue that’s occurred since reopening for in-person learning last week.There have been at least four confirmed COVID-19 cases within the district. As a result, teachers are being quarantined and school officials say they’re having difficulty finding substitute teachers to fill in.The board unanimously approved a plan that would allow in-person learning to continue as the district addresses the staffing issue. The plan is to use a threshold system to close down some of its middle schools and high schools with positive COVID-19 cases.The details have yet to be hashed out, but in principle, the district's board agreed the new rules would be:-- If one school has two positive cases in a specific time, the whole school would have to switch to virtual learning for 14 days-- If three secondary schools see one case each within a certain period, all three would have to go virtual for two weeksMission Vista High School already has two positive COVID-19 cases, so the district plans to close the school on Thursday and transition students and staff to virtual learning. Voters in Florida have passed an amendment to the state constitution that raises the minimum wage in the state to an hour.According to the Associated Press, voters overwhelmingly supported Amendment 2, which passed with 61% support.Currently, the minimum wage in the state is .56 an hour.The AP reports that supporters of the amendment believed raising the minimum wage will raise the quality of life for millions of residents and argued that living on an .56 minimum wage was not possible given the state's rising cost of living.Opponents of the amendment say raising the minimum wage will stifle economic recovery in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and have a negative impact on the state's tourism industry.Though a minimum wage was a central part of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden's campaign, Florida went for President Donald Trump. 870
