SAN DIEGO -- Video taken Tuesday shows people climbing on top of the border fence near Friendship Park near the Pacific Coast US/Mexico border as the migrant caravan approaches.According to a Border Patrol spokesperson, agents are keeping watch on the U.S. side of the park, but aren’t aware of anyone climbing all the way over onto the U.S. side of the beach.Border Patrol says it’s technically not legal for people to sit on the fence because it’s on U.S. soil, but no arrests are being made at this time.It’s unclear whether or not the group is with the migrant caravan.The incident comes as U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the closure of several northbound border lanes in San Ysidro and Otay Mesa.The closures are expected to cause delays. 765

But school board vice president Richard Barrera said that is only the first step.The San Diego Unified School District serves its 105,000 students on a .3 billion annual budget. But with challenges mounted by the pandemic, Barrera said they would need at least 0 million more to reopen schools safely. "We'll need more staff, more nursing support, more counseling support, more custodial support to clean the classrooms regularly, and physical protective equipment for the staff," Barrera said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 16-year-old girl and 11 women were recovered during a two-day human trafficking operation in San Diego County that also resulted in the arrests of five men and a woman on a variety of charges, authorities announced."Operation Home for the Holidays" was conducted Monday and Tuesday and aimed at recovering juvenile victims and involved detectives from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department working undercover as sex buyers looking for online ads of suspected juveniles, according to a statement from the department.Child Welfare Services and a juvenile advocate assisted with the recovery of the teenager and the women were offered resources, the statement said.Deputies arrested five men for suspected prostitution-related violations, including one who was in possession of a gun at the time of his arrest. A woman was arrested for trafficking of a minor, the department said. It was unclear if the minor recovered was the one being trafficked by the woman."I'm proud of the great work being done by the San Diego County Human Trafficking Task Force," Sheriff Bill Gore said. SAN BERNARDINO (KGTV) - With their backs to the wall, facing elimination, an unforgiving heat, and trying to stave off fatigue from a rigorous schedule, the Park View Little League all-stars survived to play another game at the West Regional tournament in San Bernardino.Keyed by slugger Jose Mendoza and stellar pitching by Kainoa Baptista, the Green Monsters kept their postseason run alive while ending the Arizona Sunnyside Little League's hopes of advancing.  The squad from Chula Vista defeated Sunnyside 9-5 in an elimination game Tuesday afternoon.PVLL, which suffered its first loss of the postseason on Monday, took an early 3-0 lead on a first-inning three-run blast to right center by Mendoza.The Southern California champs broke the game open in the third inning.  Down two outs with runners on first and second, Aiden Skinner punched a deep single to right field scoring Jordan Bleisch.The long inning and blistering 108-degree heat seemed to wear down Arizona starting pitcher Cristobal Lorta.  Lorta started struggling with his form allowing Park View to extend their lead 7-0 on two wild pitches with runners on third and an RBI single to Conner Alonzo.Sunnyside's decision to keep Lorta on the mound in the fourth inning backfired when the leadoff batter, Ivan Rodriguez Jr., ripped the first pitch down the left field line for a double. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 21-year-old man who fatally stabbed a transient in Ocean Beach was sentenced today to 15 years to life in state prison. Noah Mitchell Jackson, 21, was convicted earlier this year of second-degree murder for the June 22, 2017, killing of 65-year-old Walter ``Ras'' Riley, an Ohio native nicknamed ``the Incense Man'' due to his practice of selling aromatic burning sticks at local farmers' markets. Officers sent just before 12:30 a.m. to the 1900 block of Bacon Street found Riley lying on the sidewalk with stab wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at UCSD Medical Center. Deputy District Attorney Michael Reilly said the victim was stabbed five times, with the killing blow entering his back, breaking several ribs and puncturing his heart. RELATED: Police search for man suspected in death of homeless man in Ocean BeachJackson confessed to a friend that he stabbed Riley, according to the prosecutor, who said Jackson told the friend, ``I got that guy. I stabbed that (expletive).'' ``Those are the words of a murderer,'' Reilly told jurors. Reilly said that some time after the killing, Jackson had a friend drive him to Kellogg's Beach, where Jackson threw the murder weapon and his cellphone into the water. Police divers were not able to recover the knife or the phone. Jackson's attorney, Eugene Iredale, alleged the friend was pressured by police to incriminate Jackson and was offered immunity for his testimony in the trial. The prosecutor alleged that Jackson also told the friend that he ``handled'' the victim because Riley had previously spat on Jackson's sister and insulted her. However, Iredale denied this suspected motive, as he said his client had substance abuse problems that led him to make several ``completely random statements'' to friends following the date of the killing. The attorney said the spitting incident involving Jackson's sister never occurred and ``God only knows'' why Jackson said it had. Iredale said police originally had 20 to 30 suspects, but centered on Jackson due to a 911 call made about 90 minutes prior to Riley's stabbing. In that call, a recording of which was played for the jury, the mother of one of Jackson's friends said Jackson was at her home displaying erratic behavior and saying he wanted to commit suicide. He'd just gotten into an argument with his girlfriend, then left the house, she told a dispatcher. Iredale alleged the clothing description she provided police -- a white sweatshirt and jeans -- vaguely resembled the attire of a suspect captured on surveillance footage running through Ocean Beach following the killing. That footage was publicly released shortly after Riley's death. Iredale said the man in the footage was Riley's killer, but looked nothing like his client. Jackson was arrested in Huntington Beach in February 2018 by SDPD detectives with the help of local police and the U.S. Marshals Service. 3238
