A 4-year-old girl and four family members are recovering after a bobcat attack on Mt. Graham. Two campgrounds are closed with Arizona Game and Fish trying to catch and kill the cat they suspect has rabies. Has more on what officials are calling an extreme and bizarre animal attack. Game and Fish says they won't know for sure until they catch and test the animal, but this is simply not the behavior of a healthy bobcat. They say it needs to be destroyed. “The behavior is extreme by any reasonable standard. This is not someone coming across a bobcat and quickly being bit and the bobcat running off, this is sustained attacks on human beings,” said Arizona Game and Fish Spokesperson Mark Hart. The Family camping on Mt. Graham survived a traumatic experience Sunday. “A year-old girl ran behind the tent, her mother heard screaming, and they came around the tent to see she was being attacked by a bobcat, on the ground bitten at least once in the head.”The girl's father, two uncles, and a teenage girl came to her aid and the bobcat attacked them too. Hart says mountain lions can target children, but a healthy bobcat never would. “A bobcat is going to be more interested in an antelope squirrel or a rodent, not a human being it’s too big, the child was bigger than the bobcat.”The girl was treated for rabies exposure at a nearby hospital. Her family needed to go to two other hospitals to get the vaccine. All have been released. “Once symptoms onset rabies is almost always fatal. If you are exhibiting symptoms the vaccine won't work but if you get it before symptoms onset your life will be saved.”Shannon and Snow Flat campgrounds have been closed to the public. “We are on scene today setting traps and using predator calls in an attempt to lure the bobcat in, it has to be destroyed.”Hart says rabies are more common in foxes, bats, and skunks but the disease can be spread to other animals. He says to stay away from dead animal remains because it can be passed that way also. 2006

A Dallas jury on Tuesday found former police officer Amber Guyger guilty of murder for fatally shooting her unarmed neighbor, Botham Jean, in his own apartment, which she said she mistook as hers. The jury deliberated less than 24 hours. The verdict followed a trial that has captured national attention and sparked outrage.Judge Tammy Kemp asked Guyger and her lawyers to stand as she delivered the verdict."We the jury unanimously find the defendant, Amber Guyger, guilty of murder as charged in the indictment," Kemp read, as a shriek and hand clap could be heard."No outbursts," Kemp said before announcing a break until 2 p.m.Jean's mother immediately threw both arms in the air upon hearing the verdict, then quickly retracted them. Another woman who started to shout in praise was chastised by a court officer. Members of Jean's family sobbed. There were hugs among family members and prosecutors.Guyger, her head down, wept at the defense table. Her mother also broke down in tears in the courtroom. When the courtroom doors open, people in the hallway applauded and cheered. Some cried on hallway benches and shouts of "Guilty! Guilty" and "Black lives matter" could be heard.Guyger, who is white, testified that after working long hours on September 6, 2018, she returned to her Dallas apartment complex and approached what she thought was her apartment. She noticed the door was partially open, and pulled out her service weapon and shot a figure inside in the dark. It turned out she was at the apartment directly above hers -- which belonged to the 1572

A California couple watching TV at home Sunday evening got an unwelcome visitor: a mountain lion that wandered in through their open door.Edward and Kathy Sudduth of Sonora heard a loud slam and were soon met by the big cat, which they think must have been chasing a neighbor's pet. It took them a moment to register what was going on, the pair told 362

WASHINGTON, D.C. – If the coronavirus is proving to be a challenge to most Americans, it’s even more so for those without a home. “If somebody on the street gets it, they can't self-quarantine. They don't have access to the same kinds of resources that the rest of us do,” said Joe Mettimano, president of the 323

A Fordham University student who fell about 30 feet from inside a clock tower early Sunday has died, school officials said.Sydney Monfries was climbing the school's iconic clock tower in Keating Hall about 3 a.m. when the fall occurred on the Bronx, New York, campus of the Jesuit university. The senior, who was critically injured, was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital."There are no words sufficient to describe the loss of someone so young and full of promise — and mere weeks from graduation," university President Joseph M. McShane, said in a statement. "Fordham will confer a bachelor's degree upon Sydney posthumously, which we will present to her parents at the appropriate time."A mass was scheduled to be held for Monfries on Sunday evening at Fordham University Church.
