SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 58-year-old man was killed this morning when his SUV crashed into a tree in Mira Mesa and he was thrown from the vehicle.The man was driving his white Cadillac SUV westbound in the No. 2 lane of Mira Mesa Boulevard at 1:10 a.m. After passing through the intersection at Camino Ruiz, he made an unsafe movement to the left, causing the SUV to jump the center island and strike a large pine tree, ejecting the driver, who died at the scene, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.It was unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, Heims said.The name of the victim was not disclosed. 655

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 17-year-old girl was shot Tuesday morning during an argument inside a Rolando apartment, San Diego police said.Shortly after 12:35 a.m., a security guard reported hearing an argument followed by a gunshot inside of an apartment in the 4700 block of Seminole Drive, near Stanley Avenue off 63rd Street and El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims said.The security guard also reported seeing people run away after the shooting, Heims said. Officers responded to the scene and found that a 17-year-old girl had been shot in the left neck/jaw area.The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, the officer said.A detailed suspect description was not immediately available. 782

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 30-year-old man was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a fire hydrant in a neighborhood north of Scripps Ranch, police said Thursday.The crash was reported around 4:20 p.m. on Stonebridge Parkway near Stockwood Cove, off Pomerado Road in the Rancho Encantada neighborhood, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.The victim was riding his 2019 Indian Scout motorcycle between 80-100 mph eastbound on Stonebridge Parkway when he lost control at a curve in the road, jumped the curb and slammed into a fire hydrant, Buttle said.The rider was ejected onto the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene, he said. SAN DIEGO — The race to replace former Congressman Duncan Hunter in California's 50th Congressional District is in a virtual deadheat, according to a new scientific poll.The ABC-10News Union-Tribune SurveyUSA poll shows Republican Darrell Issa, a former congressman, leading Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar 46 percent to 45 percent, within the 5.4 percent margin of error. “This poll I think is a shocker for many political observers, including myself,” said Thad Kousser, political scientist at UC San Diego. “You have an establishment, well-known candidate in Darrell Issa with proven fundraising ability in a district that until a couple years ago was the reddest district in California, so many people thought that by this time the real start of the campaign season Darrell Issa would have a huge lead over Ammar Campa-Najjar.”Hunter resigned in January after pleading guilty to a single felony conspiracy count. Federal prosecutors accused him and his wife Margaret of misusing 0,000 in campaign funds. Hunter, under indictment during the 2018 election, still defeated Campa-Najjar by 3 percentage points, or 9,000 votes in the 50th District, which leans Republican.Campa-Najjar is running in 2020 to take the open seat.
