(KGTV) - The owner of Lhooq Books is hoping the community can help him out, after being served with a 60-day notice to vacate.Sean Christopher has owned and run Lhooq Books on Carlsbad Village Drive for a decade. His book store specializes in rare books. It also features a public library outside, where people can either buy books for a donation or borrow them. It also hosts small public art events.But all of it is at risk.Christopher says he contacted his leasing company, Pacific Coast Commercial, in September to ask about the state of his rental agreement. Instead of getting answers, he says they served him with a notice to vacate."It was a complete and utter shock," says Christopher. "There was not even a hint that anything was wrong."In addition to being forced to leave his store, Christopher says he's also been told to leave his home, which he rents from the same company. The store and home are both on the same plot of land.Christopher says part of the shock came because of all the work he's done on the property. He estimates that he's spent thousands of dollars to clean up the home and renovate the store."I've basically replaced, repaired or deep cleaned absolutely every inch of the property," he says.He also says he had an agreement with the owner to do more work over the next few months to add a new entrance to the book store and a new storage shed in the home's yard.Now, he's confused why the owner would make that agreement and then force him out.Christopher says there's no way he can uproot his life, family and business in under two months."To find a suitable retail store, and a home, and then pay security deposits and first and last month's rent on both, while continuing to pay rent here, it's literally impossible," says Christopher.When he reached out for a follow-up with the rental company, Christopher says they told him their decision was "just business."They also told him to stop calling, or he'd be given a 3-day eviction notice.Now he wants to fight back. Christopher says he understand's the owner's rights to end his lease, but he hired a lawyer to try and get an extension."I'm not being unreasonable," he says. "I'm just trying to get a compromise, a resolution so that I can relocate without maxing out my credit cards or going bankrupt and possibly homeless."To help pay legal fees, Christopher has set up aGoFundMe account. (AP) — NASCAR has cleared Kyle Larson to return in 2021, ending his long suspension for using a racial slur while playing a video racing game. “NASCAR continues to prioritize diversity and inclusion across our sport,” the sanctioning body said in an official statement. “Kyle Larson has fulfilled the requirements set by NASCAR and has taken several voluntary measures, to better educate himself so that he can use his platform to help bridge the divide in our country," NASCAR said in a press release. Businesses are one step closer to growing their own marijuana in San Diego. The deadline to enter the lottery for those permits ended Wednesday afternoon. Bradley Fisher really has his hopes up. "I'm getting it," said Fisher. "I'll be one of the 40 forsure."  He applied for two permits Wednesday so his client can start growing their own pot. He submitted his paperwork ahead of the lottery deadline, which gives him a better chance of getting that permit down the road. His client already has a warehouse set up for production. "They're able to grow it and bring it right to the dispensary," said Fisher. "They can make baked items as well, cookies, cakes the whole nine-yards, and it's all legit because they'll have permits for it."But it's not a simple process. "They're gonna put like a mezzanine in the building, in the warehouse, ovens, and stuff like that, tons of lights," said Fisher. "Electric is going to be off the hook; water is going up there. It's very costly, but then again its very beneficial."The city is now reviewing those applications to make sure they meet their demands. "To make the cultivation center you need to be 1,000 feet from any schools, any churches, daycares, parks."Applicants can still apply for appointments Thursday even if they weren't part of the lottery. (KGTV) - More than two and a half years after Team 10 first reported about a North County property management company accused of stealing money from clients, the victims are finally getting their money back.Kelley Zaun owned Carousel Properties, a Carlsbad property management company. Victims first told Team 10 in 2016, they hired her to pay fees associated with their rentals. They said she did not pay those fees. She was accused of taking roughly 0,000 from victims, according to investigators.In 2018, Zaun faced 29 felonies for embezzlement, according to Deputy District Attorney Anna Winn. Zaun entered into a plea deal and agreed to a year in custody. With the help of the DA’s office, Zaun’s former clients were able to get their money back through the Department of Real Estate’s Consumer Recovery Account. RELATED: Team 10: Police investigating Carlsbad companyStephen Lerner, the Assistant Commissioner for Legal Affairs for the department, said so far, 23 victims have been reimbursed through the account. Other victims’ payments are still processing. They have been able to reimburse 2,084.68 thus far.The Consumer Recover Account is an option for fraud victims when trying to recoup money from the person who took it from them. In order to utilize the fund, Lerner said there must be a criminal or civil court order for the defendant to pay back money he or she took. If victims cannot get refunded from the person who stole it, they can apply through the Department of Real Estate (DRE).Winn said she volunteered to be the victims’ liaison with the DRE, as the process for reimbursement is lengthy and many of the victims were elderly. One of Zaun’s victims told Team 10 he is “extremely grateful” for the DA’s office work on this case.
